Cultism: ESUT suspends two students indefinitely, investigates staff over corruption
By Timothy Nwobodo and Joseph Joy
In its bid to enthrone a culture of moral probity and integrity in the institution, the management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT has suspended, indefinitely, two students found to be members of a cult group as well as investigating staff found wanting in the discharge of their duties, ESUT Monitor can report
The arrest and subsequent suspension of the two students (names withheld) was as a result of diligent collaboration between the management and the Police Anti-Cult Unit
After thorough investigation, the two suspects were identified as ESUT students and suspended from the University indefinitely.
Similarly, the university management is leaving no stones unturned as it continues to weed bad eggs out of the system. This follows expeditious handling of cases involving students in various forms of malpractices and those found guilty were sanctioned in accordance with the subsisting regulations.
Four (4) non-teaching staff found to have compromised their respective offices were suspended and their respective cases handed over to Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for further action.
At Present, the university is conducting a full scale investigation on alleged monumental corruption involving staff and students in a particular Department and the management has vowed that “appropriate action shall be taken as soon as report on the findings is received.”
These moves are part of the present Management’s zero tolerance for cultism and corruption within the system as it continues to work with relevant law enforcement agencies to flush out bag eggs from the institution
