2023/2024 session: ESUT offers over 4000 students admission in first batch

By Joseph Joy and Blessing Nwokpokwu

As the 2023/2024 new academic session took effect in October, no fewer than four thousand (4000) students have been offered admission to study various courses at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT.

The number represents 60% of the total number of students offered admission out of the total 7000 quota while second and third batches are being awaited.

The university was given a quota of seven thousand (7000) students to admit within the new academic calendar.

Speaking on the admission status of the first year students, the Deputy Registrar, Admission, Mr Nwobodo Nnaemeka who gave the figure in an interview, said the management is making efforts to ensure that the admission quota is maximised.

“The admission status is that we have just come out with the first batch of admission for the 2023-2024 academic session. The number of admitted students so far is four thousand eighty-three (4083). The quota allotted to ESUT from JAMB is seven thousand, (7000), and we are hoping that we have the second or third batch to meet up with that number that will at least boost chances of the university getting more slots from JAMB in terms of quota.”

He revealed that the university will begin admitting students into new departments in the current academic session. The courses are: Departments of History and International Studies, Environmental Sciences as well as Mathematics and Statistics which has been unbundled. Also facing unbundling is the Faculty of Applied and Natural Sciences to Faculty of Physical Sciences and Faculty of Biological Sciences.

Students will be admitted into the new programmes as the management aims to ensure that academic programmes commenced fully in the various departments.
