Shun Cultism, Social Vices – Enugu State Police Command Charges ESUT Students

By Joseph Joy

The Nigeria Police Force, Enugu State Command has charged students of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT to shun cultism, social vices as well as academic and life carryovers while pursuing their academic endeavours

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Enugu command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, made the charge while delivering a speech on the 2023/2024 ESUT Orientation Programm for first year students on Wednesday.

Speaking during the programme held at the prestigious Prof Julius Onah Auditorium, DSP Ndukwe admonished the year one students to define their focus and remain resolute in actualizing their educational aspiration.

He advised the students to shun every act capable of making them to stray away from the purpose for which they were in the institution and warned that no act of crime and criminality would go unpunished.

“Beyond academic, you are here to learn many things and it is in the process of learning that alot happen. Be contended with what you have.

“I am interested in what you do and how you go about the opportunities you have here. There are challenges but I urge you to be contended with what you have, don’t live fake life. Don’t measure with anybody. The competition in life is between you and yourself.

“There is no hidding place for criminals. You can get away with it but we usually say ’99 days for the thief and one day for the owner of the house’ you may run for long but when we catch you, we will bring both heaven and hell fire judgment on your head.

“One thing I want to remind you is that most time people that will lead you into cultism will come in a very soft manner. They don’t use force anymore. The time they were using force has gone. Today it could be one sweet guy who is your friend, who have been relating with you and he has been extending good manners to you, buying things and the rest of them. Eventually, when you have enjoyed so much from him or her, to say no to their request becomes difficult.

“You must begin to learn, choose your friends. You will help us to police you better. Know where you go. I am not saying you should not enjoy life but know the limit and extent you can enjoy. I encourage you, shun cultism, don’t allow anybody to force or lure you into it, shun social vices. Don’t learn those things that will end up breaking you forever,” he said.

The orientation programme marked the commencement of activities marking the 43rd Matriculation Ceremony of the University which holds on Friday, February 23, 2024.

Over 5000 students have been offered admission to study various courses in the institution for the current academic session.
