The Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) has inducted a total of 129 (One Hundred and Twenty Nine) new Medical Doctors, at the 30th Induction/ Swearing in ceremony of graduating Medical Doctors of the Institution .
Declaring the ceremony open at the University auditorium, the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor G. I. N. Emezue, stated that the University will continue to maintain excellence in producing quality Medical Doctors and thanked the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr Alex Otti OFR, for his support, particularly in transforming the ABSUTH and the Medical College of the University, as well as helping to secure full accreditation and increased admission quota for the College.
He congratulated the new doctors for their hard work and perseverance, while thanking the parents/ guardian for their sacrifices.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, said that the State Government recognized the efforts of the University in producing quality Medical Doctors that are doing well in all parts of the world and commended the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr Alex Otti OFR for his prompt intervention to ensure full accreditation of the Medical College by both National Universities Commission (NUC) and Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), and promised that the administration of the Governor will continue to do more to transform the Medical College of the University as one of the best in Nigeria.
In her address, the Registrar, MDCN, Dr Fatima Kyari, represented by Dr Victor Gbenro, stressed the need for the new Medical Doctors to adhere to the ethics of the profession as they practice and warned that the Council will not hesitate to sanction any one found wanting.
The Provost, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Professor S. N. Onwere, in his own remarks, urged the new Doctors to always be guided by the motto of Excellence and Service of the University, while thanking all the stakeholders that made the event possible.
Giving his valedictory speech, the best graduating student, Dr Onyemachi Obinna, thanked the University, the lecturers and parents for the solid foundation which they have laid for them to move to the next level of their career and assured they will not disappoint.
In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Provost, Professor Boniface Ekpo, thanked all who graced the occasion and advised the new doctors to always remain good ambassadors of the University.
Highlight of the event was the administration of the Physician Oath on the 129 new doctors and presentation of awards.
