Gunmen Abduct 11 Students In Enugu, Demand ₦30 Million Ransom
By Agency Report
Gunmen have abducted no fewer than 11 passengers at the Amechi-Idodo axis of the Enugu-Abakaliki federal highway.
Some of the abductees are believed to be returning students of tertiary institutions in Ebonyi State.
Daily Sun gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday as they travelled in a commercial bus from Awka, Anambra State to Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
Their bus was intercepted by the hoodlums at the notorious Amechi-Idodo area in Nkanu East Local Government Area which had been turned into a kidnappers’ den recently.
It could not be confirmed whether the Enugu State Police Command knew about the incident.
But, a family member of one of the victims said the kidnappers established communication with them today and were asking for N30 million ransom.
Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, a deputy superintendent of police, recently disclosed that the Enugu State Police Command was working assiduously towards flushing out the hoodlums.
He said that the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Augustina Ogbodo, had reached out to her Enugu counterpart, Kanayo Uzuegbu, over the increasing kidnap cases in that axis of the highway.
Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah few weeks ago ordered the security agencies to flush out the hoodlums.
