By Amaechi Agbo

In a bid to ensure decorum, safety of lives and property in within its vicinity after final degree exams, the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has banned excessive celebration and reckless driving by final year students.

The University issued the warning through a circular on Wednesday side by the Registrar, Chief Ambrose Ugwu.

The circular noted that the management will take decisive actions against errant students adding that the Chief Security Officer of the university as well as other security agents have been mandated to arrest and detain offenders.

Chief Ugwu mandated all Directors, Deans and Heads of Department to caution their students against dissident.

“This is to inform the University Community that incessant and reckless driving in and around the school premises after writing degree/final year and or any examinations has been prohibited.

“Management will henceforth take drastic action(s) on any Student(s) in breach of this directive.

“Deans, Directors, Heads of Department/Unit are by this memo directed to warn their final year Students to quietly leave the University premises immediately they finish their examinations.

“Furthermore, the Chief Security Officer and other law enforcement agencies on campus are hereby mandated to be at red alert and ensure that law and order are strictly maintained within the University premises,” the circular reads

It could be recalled that over the years, students writing their final degree examinations usually come to school on the final exam day with rented vehicles, driving recklessly, often times leading to avoidable accidents.

The 2023/2024 2nd semester examinations in the university commencement on Tuesday, July 23 and will end on August 8, 2024.

Final year students will pen their last examinations in the university on that day, which invariably calls for celebration, unfortunately, the celebration in recent years have been frowned at by the university management in view of ugly developments.
