By Amaechi Agbo

Ahead of the August 7 PDP primary elections for councilorship positions in Enugu State, stakeholders in Ogbozarra Opi Community have endorsed Hon. Nnaemeka Eze, for a second term for Ịdị/Ogbozarra Ward.

The stakeholders made the endorsement on Sunday in Enugu.

The Stakeholders meeting was held under the auspices of the Honourable member representing Nsukka East Constituency at the Enugu State House of Assembly, Dr Pius Onyekachi Ezugwu.

The meeting which was attended by prominent members of the Ogbozarra Community including the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of ESUT, Professor Charles Eze; Ogbozarra Community Town Union President-General, Mr Amechi Isiani; Barr Mrs Christiana Onah (PDP’s Candidate in 2023 Enugu State House of Assembly Election); Former Secretary, Nsukka Local Government Area, Hon Nnamdi Onyeke, among others, unanimously agreed that Hon Eze has done well in his first term to deserve a second ticket.

In his opening remarks, Hon Dr Pius Ezugwu thanked the group for their time and informed them that the purpose of the meeting was to assess the performance of the immediate past Councilor representing Ịdị/Ogbozarra Ward at the Nsukka Local Government Legislative House and ascertain if he deserved a second term.

Hon Nnaemeka Eze Received Ogbozarra Community Endorsement for 2nd term in office

In his speech, Prof Eze noted that having watched Hon Eze’s trajectory, that it was in the best interest of the community to support him to return to the Nsukka Local Government Legislative Arm.

The former Vice-Chancellor noted that it is necessary to rally round Hon Eze who, according to him, has been a “unifying factor” in the community.

The Stakeholders further added that the endorsement of Hon Eze’s for the Councilorship election was a collective decision of Ogbozarra community people and urged any interested individual for the position to shield such.

Prof Eze said that the decision was not political rather based on the common interest of the community adding that all political parties in the community should align with the stakeholders decision to move the community forward.

“The endorsement today is very critical and with this we are saying that all other political parties should align themselves with this decision. This decision is not politically motivated rather it was borne out of the need to promote and protect our interest.

Elections in Ogbozarra Community are always peaceful

“Hon Eze has done well in his first tenure and it is proper that we give him the second chance to consolidate on the good things he has been doing,”.

On how the community would carry Idi Community along since both share the same ward, Prof Eze explained: “There is an understanding in the Ward that a councilor, irrespective of where he or she comes from, will go for a second term, if such a person has performed. So in this case, we still have the mandate. What we will do, arising from this meeting, is to issue a communique backed with the names and signatures of those in this meeting and take it to our people in Ịdị and explain our choice to them. It is not a big deal,” he concluded.

On his part, Hon Nnaemeka Eze, Popularly known as Bravo, expressed appreciation to the stakeholders for the honour done him and promised not to disappoint the community.

“I am not going to make a long speech. Rather I want to express my thankfulness to our great community for this honour. I am challenged, once again, and twice I will not fail,” he concluded

Others in attendance during the meeting are: Mr Edeji Abonyi, Dr Bernardine Ezugwu, Mr Nnamdi Agbo, Dr Edith Eze, Dr Obinna Abonyi, among others.

The 2024 Local Council elections in Enugu State will hold on October 5 across all the 17 local governments.
