By Joseph Joy

Determined to foster a new orientation and enhance staff productivity in the new academic session and beyond, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science Education (MCE), ESUT, has scheduled a one-day capacity building seminar for its staff.

Themed “Bridging the Soft Skill Gap Among 21st Century University Workers: Imperative for Quality Service Delivery”, the seminar will hold on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the new MCE Departmental Apartment, ODL Complex, opposite Postgraduate building, ESUT main Campus, Agbani commencing by 11am

The seminar will also be used to officially dedicate the new MCE Departmental Apartment with Rev Dr S.I Oduenyi ministering.

A human resource and development expert, Mr Godson Igwedinmah, is the Gust Speaker. The seminar will be hosted by the Head of Department, MCE, Associate Professor Samuel Nneji, to be co-hosted by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof T.M Owoh.

The Vice-Chancellor ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie will be the Chief Host.

Speaking in an interview, HOD explained that the seminar is inline with the vision of the university in promoting excellence and human capital development adding that the timing of the workshop is instructive as it would usher the staff into the new academic session.

“This seminar is in furtherance of the vission of Enugu State University of Science and Technology to be a premier University in Africa in capacity development that promotes services to the society through quality teaching, research and community service.

“For ESUT to produce quality manpower that will utilise technology for the service of society, ESUT staff must be empowered through a seminar of this nature to render quality services to all and sundry.

“ln addition to technical skills already possessed by our staff, they also need essential non-technical or psychosocial skills generally called soft skills to excell in modern day service delivery. This is in line with the 21st century University Education needs.

“The seminar is most appropriate now because we need to reposition our staff for a new academic session, that is, 2024/2025 academic session which kicks off 14th October, 2024,” Prof Nneji said.

It could be recalled that the management of ESUT on 19 and 20 September conducted a two-day capacity building training workshop for frontline staff of the university with the aim of ensuring improved productivity, work ethics and probity.
