Faculty of Agricultural Sciences ESUT Embarks on Ambitious Poultry Project

Agbani – In a bid to reposition agriculture as the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy and combat hunger, the Faculty of Agriculture Sciences at Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESIT has commenced a comprehensive renovation and construction of its poultry farm.

According to the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Emeka Nzeh he noted that the renovation is in preparation to revieve 4, 000 Day-old chicks next week.

“The project aims to receive 4,000 day-old chicks on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Agriculture is the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, and our faculty is committed to equipping students with practical knowledge of agronomic activities,” he stated.

The renovated poultry farm features a state-of-the-art breeding pen, designed to regulate temperature and relative humidity. The facility has undergone thorough washing and fumigation in preparation for the arrival of the chicks.

Professor Nze revealed that GP tanks have been installed to ensure easy access to water and facilitate the growth of the birds to 2.5kg in just six weeks.

Associate Dean, Professor Ezika, emphasized that the poultry farm and other agronomic facilities are open to all four departments within the faculty, providing hands-on learning opportunities for students.

“The ultimate goal is to combat hunger and position agriculture as a vital sector in our university, state, and country,” Professor Ezika said.

The Vice Chancellor and Faculty Management are committed to revitalizing the faculty, aligning with the national agenda to promote agriculture as a key driver of economic growth and food security.
