In her interaction with ESUT Monitor, the Associates Dean, Faculty of Law, Rev. Sis Dr. Mariam Onuegbunam said the faculty is delighted to welcome the new intakes and urged them to be humble, law abiding.
“We thank God for the matriculation ceremony and for the increasing numbers of the newly matriculated law students, that the faculty is happy to have them. The have made it to their dream university and course if choice but I will advise them to be humble and law abiding. As people who are going to defend and interpret the law I. The future, their formative years are critical to us and we will give them the best so that Nigeria will be a better place when the go from here,” she said.
When asked about the effect of the decentralized system towards the matriculation process, the Associate Dean noted that it has been very effective.
“The system brings about the discipline of each faculty or department . It allows the faculty to prepare themselves and students to know where they belong because the indoctrination starts there.
“If we were still doing the the matriculation and accommodating all the students together in a particular area where the ‘Vice Chancellor addresses the whole students generally, the impacts are not there. But the decentralized matriculation process, we can address the students particularly on what they need to know within there faculty or department and the discipline they’ve come to embrace,” She said.
She admonished the students further “Law is a noble and prestigious profession. You can’t just come into law that you are coming. Once you’re coming into law you are aiming for greatness. Therefore they need to remain focused, not to deviate. If they start well and remain focused there is no way they will leave this Faculty after 5 years and not achieve something. Also let them maintain good friendship with one another, that God will surround them with essence of peace and calmness to focus on their studies”.
