Industrial Physics Department ESUT holds Orientation As Alumnus Donates N0.500 Million

The Department of Industrial Physics, Faculty of Physical Sciences, ESUT, recently organised orientation programme for the newly admitted students in the department while an alumnus of the department, Mr. Tochukwu Otiji donated five hundred thousand naira (N500, 000) to the newly admitted students.
The orientation provided an avenue for the lecturers, board members and students to interact on issues relating to conducts as well as enhancing effective teaching and learning.
In his opening remarks, the Head of Department, Dr. Chima Iheanyichukwu Abraham, while congratulating the newly admitted students for choosing the best Department in the university, warned them that the euphoria over their admission is over and it was time for business.
“Let me congratulate all of you for choosing the best Department in the university. You are all welcome. Our desire in this Department is to encourage you to be the best you want to be and ensure that you walked in the right path. Your excitement of admission is over and with this orientation and your matriculation coming up in few days time, the reality is here, its time for work. Take your studies seriously and ensures you don’t involve yourselves in acts capable of ending your admissions prematurely.
“This orientation is intended to officially welcome you into the Department, introduce you to the Departments ethics, code of conducts and rules that will help you graduate as stipulated. You are also expected to get familiarised with your lecturers whom you will be meeting as you progress in your programme,” he said.
The Orientation had three sections including “The history and rules of the department” delivered by Prof. A. I Onyia; “Registration of Courses by students” delivered by Prof. Paulinus Ugwoke, students and Lecturers relationship delivered by Dr Kingsley Okongwu and “Carrier Opportunities” by Prof. G.Z Ugwu, Dean of Physical Sciences, representing the Vice-Chancellor.
While Prof Onyia dwelt on the origin of the department, the prominent scientists it has produced who are shaping the global society, Prof Ugwuoke made the new students to understand that without course registration, which must be done after payment of school fees, their studentship is null and void.
Delivering his lecture on career opportunities, Prof. Ugwu said there is no limit for where an industrial Physics graduate can work provided you made yourselves relevant by acquiring relevant skills that would equip you for the life after graduation.
An alumnus of the the Department, Mr. Tochukwu Otiji, who was the special guest of honour donated N500, 000 to the students and also promised to furnish the postgraduate class of the Department.
Mr Otiji gave the students series of advice and informed that they are in the right Department.
Mr Otiji who shared his experiences with the students, encouraged them to read their books and shun vices that will make them not graduate noting that Industrial Physics students are known for obedient and greatness.He has worked in several Oil companies including Total etc before resigning to start his own personal company.He graduated during 2008/2009 sessions.
