The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, has suspended a lecturer, Okoroafor Ifeanyichukwu, for allegedly assaulting a male student, identified as Chidera.
Ifeanyichukwu, a facilitator in the Technical and Entrepreneurship Development Centre of the polytechnic, was seen in a viral video assaulting the student on Thursday.
His suspension was communicated to him in a letter with reference FPN/TEDC/80/1, dated March 14, 2025, and signed by the Director of TEDC, Okoye P.C.
The letter reads, “You are hereby suspended from duty as a facilitator in the Technical and Entrepreneurship Development Centre pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident that occurred yesterday, March 13, 2025, at the site of your entrepreneurship training.”
A video that surfaced late Thursday showed the suspended facilitator slapping Chidera furiously before kicking him off balance, causing the student to fall.
Ifeanyichukwu was also seen walking away, visibly angry, after attacking the student.
The video attracted widespread shares and heavy criticism from the public.
Saturday PUNCH gathered that the suspended facilitator has apologised to the student for his actions.
In the apology letter, the lecturer expressed his “sincerest apology” for his behaviour which was “not only unprofessional but…also caused you harm and distress”.
“I want you to know that I take full responsibility for my actions, and I am truly sorry for the pain and suffering I caused you. I understand that my apology cannot erase the past, but I hope it can be a step towards healing and moving forward.
“Please know that I am committed to changing my behavior and ensuring that all my students feel safe, respected, and supported in the classroom. I will do everything in my power to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future,” Okoroafor’s letter read in part. (Daily Sun: Text, Excluding Headline)
