The Kwara State Government has shut down Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, Ilorin, due to persistent student unrest.
The decision, announced by the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, aims to restore peace and safeguard lives and property. The schools had witnessed repeated clashes among students, destruction of property, and disruption of academic activities.
Only students currently sitting for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) and their teachers will be allowed access to the premises, provided they carry proper identification.
Dr. Olohungbebe urged parents to keep their children at home and emphasized that anyone violating the closure order would face arrest by security personnel.
The government reaffirmed its dedication to enforcing discipline and protecting the learning environment across all public schools. The move underscores a zero-tolerance approach to violence and disorder within educational institutions in the state.
