Determined to improve the standard of teaching and learning, the management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), has distributed 200 five-seater desks to four departments.
The faculty and departments which benefited from the gesture include Faculty of Physical Sciences, Departments of Mass Communication, Public Health, and Food Nutrition and Dietetics. All of them received 50 pieces of the five-seater desks from the ESUT Management between late May and Tuesday this week.
Speaking after taking delivery of the 50 seats for his faculty, the Dean, faculty of Physical Sciences, Prof Ugwu Gabriel expressed excitement over the provision of the seats and thanked the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for their prompt response after few weeks he made the request.
He acknowledged that the provision of the initial 50 seats with additional 50 to be delivered very soon would enhance teaching and learning in the faculty.
“We are happy to hand-mark and receive the 50 desks from the management for our faculty. We are very happy because it was a big challenge for us particularly during the last semester examinations. We struggled to get seats and today, the management has responded swiftly by providing us with the first 50 seats because we are expecting another 50 will be delivered. The management responded timely by giving us the seats, so we still ask for more. We thank our ‘Talk-and-do” Vice-Chancellor, he promised and has just delivered
“I actually requested for a hundred chairs and today we received 50 sets, so we are expecting more 50th to be delivered before the weekend. The seats will improve on our academic excellence and enhance good management of examination supervision. Therefore this will go a long way in addressing the paucity of funds and enhance knowledge acquisition,” Prof Ugwu said
On her part, the Head of Department of Mathematics, Dr Edit Didiugwu, expressed delight over the delivery of the chairs adding that it would go a long way in addressing students seating during lectures and examinations.
Earlier in May, the management had distributed 150 five-seater desks to the Departments of Mass Communication, Public Health, and Food Nutrition and Dietetics.
The 200 seats are part of the initial 300 to be distributed to all departments/and faculties that requested for more chairs as part of measures to promote academic excellence in the university.
