By Amaechi Agbo
Agbani – The Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Professor Gabriel Ugwu has explained why the faculty is organising a three-day “International Workshop” and not a conference.
Professor Ugwu in an exclusive interview with ESUT Monitor in his office, said the choice of “International Workshop” was carefully chosen as a strategic positioning anchored on the need to create value and impact on the faculty in particular and ESUT at large
The former Director of Intellectual Property and Technological Transfer said the faculty, recently demerged from Biological Sciences, aims to start its maiden International Workshop by bringing together academia, industry, and government to discuss ways to commercialize research findings. Our goal is to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among these three key stakeholders
“We’re organizing an International Workshop instead of a conference because, as a new faculty, we want to start with a more focused discussion. We believe workshops provide a more engaging setting for participants to interact and learn from on another.
“The workshop will bring together academia, industry, and government to discuss ways to commercialize research findings. Our goal is to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among these three key stakeholders.
“The participants will include researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals. We’re expecting a diverse group of people from academia, industry, and government to attend,” he said.
On her part, the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, Dr Chinenye Onyeabor said her committee is leaving no stones unturned in ensuring the success of the Workshop adding that it would be a platform for researchers to showcase their outputs.

According to Dr Onyeabor, “We’re working hard to ensure the workshop’s success. We’ll be showcasing research outputs from graduate and undergraduate students, and we’re excited to see the impact this event will have on our faculty.
“We’re inviting government officials, industry leaders, and academics to attend. We believe this workshop will provide a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing, We’ve invited many industry players, and most have confirmed their attendance. We’re confident that this workshop will be a success and are looking forward to future events in the faculty.”
