In its efforts to flush out bad eggs and ensure sanctity in the system, the management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) and grand move has expelled five students and suspended 70 others over various offences.

The University Registrar, Mr Ambrose Ugwu who dropped the hint on Wednesday said the students were found wanting in breaching the school regulations.

Although Mr Ugwu didn’t disclose the names of the affected students, he added that the five students were expelled for their involvement in examination infractions

Mr Ugwu disclosed this during the 45^th ESUT Matriculation Orientation Programme for new students held at the Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Auditorium on Wednesday, February 18.

“As the University Registrar, I have multiplicity of roles – I am the Secretary to the Council, Secretary to the Senate among others. I am also secretary to your suspension and expulsion letters” he said light-heartedly.  

“However, let me inform you that on 10^th December last year, I handed over 75 letters of suspension and expulsion to students who committed various act of contraventions. Among the 75 affected students, 5 were expelled.  

“The five students were expelled due to impersonation. Either someone impersonated to write exams for them or they impersonated and wrote exams for people and they were caught. Some of them are in their final year while others were in 3^rd year” he said.

The Registrar warned the new students t avoid acts capable of cutting short their programmes prematurely  and urged them to remain good ambassadors of their parents, families and the school.
