Prof Onuamah to Deliver ESUT’s 55th Inaugural Lecture on Thursday

A professor of Structural Engineering, Engr Patrick Nnaemeze Onuamah will on Thursday, February 26, 2026, deliver the 55th Inaugural Lecture of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT)
The lecture, first in the year as the university management targets additional 15 more inaugural lectures to clock 70th before their administration is due next year, will dissect issues affecting contraction cost and quality delivery in Construction Engineering.
Anchored on the theme: “Concrete Components Optimization and Load to-section Stability Response Towards Construction Cost Reduction” the Inaugural Lecture will hold at the Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Multi-purpose auditorium, commencing from 11am.
Speaking in an interview with ESUT Monitor in his office, Prof Onuamah explained the rationale for chosen the topic and why the gap it stands to fill in academic lexicon and professional application in construction.

“I became a Professor in 2021 and as someone with deep interest in Structural Engineering, I felt that it is high time Engineers and builders paid attention to the cost of load to-section in construction and building. The Lecture was inspired by my desire to find out things that would be useful to humanity, I did a lot in concrete production and how to reduce cost of construction because that has been a problem to humanity.
“Cost of construction is the reason we have issues in road construction and other projects where roads constructed this year will start wearing out next year. This formed my desire to do a research on ways of determining the cost of construction to enhance durability and avoid wastages in Construction Engineering.
“Inaugural Lecture is an opportunity for a professor to show to the world his area of specialty and how he has become a master in that sector. So the expected take-home from the lecture is encapsulated in the theme. When you underestimate the cost of construction, you build a substandard project. When you overestimate, it leads to wastages. So the lecture aims at finding a nexus were we can achieve structural and cost balance to enhance strong, durable construction in our society,” he said.
