ESUT Diamond A Hostel Week Brings Joy, Excitement to Students with Sports, Movies Celebrations

Diamond A Hostel at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) launched its annual Hostel Week on June 30, 2024 with an inspiring activities to uplift the minds of the students ahead of their second semester examinations.  

The six-day event featured a variety of activities, including sports, movie nights, charity outings, and a vibrant closing party that culminated in the crowning of the new queen and face of Diamond A.

An opening prayer led by the hostel governor on the opening day of the activities, set a positive tone for the week-long celebration designed to provide a break from academic pressure and offer students a fun and relaxing experience.

The festivities began on July 1st with morning sports at the school’s Love Garden. Starting at 7am, students engaged in various exercises such as jogging, running, and skipping. The event concluded with refreshments and a closing prayer before students retired to their rooms.

July 3rd was for Game and Movie Night which marked the highlight. Students gathered in the courtyard for a movie night, enjoying popcorn and camaraderie. Despite the absence of games, the movie night was a hit, providing a memorable experience for all attendees.

On the fifth day, the hostel executives participated in a charity outing, representing the hostel and spreading goodwill in the community.

The grand finale on the last day featured a lively party, including the selection of the new Face of Diamond A and Indomie Day. The event started at 6pm with a DJ energizing the crowd. Students showcased their dance skills, with the best performers receiving prizes. Mrs. Mbamara, a special guest, delivered an encouraging speech and donated ₦10,000 to support the event.

The highlight of the evening was the contest for the new Queen and Face of Diamond A. Contestants displayed various attires and talents, answering questions from the judges. The crown went to a 300-level English and Literary Studies student, who received ₦30,000 and other prizes, while the second runner-up, a 100-level Public Administration student, was also recognized.

The celebration concluded with music, dancing, and a final prayer, leaving students with cherished memories of a successful and enjoyable Hostel Week as they prepare for their second semester examinations which start on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024.
