Meet Dr. Bernd Bergmair: First Austrian Investor to Receive ESUT’s Doctoral Award

Enugu – Bernd Bergmair is a highly respected and accomplished private investor and business leader with a career that spans over three decades. Born and raised in Austria, Bergmair has built a reputation for himself as a shrewd investor and a visionary business leader.

After completing his education at the University of Chicago, Bergmair began his career in finance, working for top-tier Wall Street investment bank Goldman Sachs. During his tenure at Goldman Sachs, Bergmair worked on numerous high-profile multi billion dollar deals, including mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, and debt financings.

In 1998, Bergmair decided to strike out on his own, establishing himself as a private investor. Over the years, he has invested in a wide range of assets, including real estate, debt, listed and unlisted securities. Bergmair’s investment philosophy is centred around a long-term approach, focusing on generating sustainable returns rather than seeking short-term gains.

In addition to his work as a private investor, Bergmair has also served as a vice chairman of several foundations. In this role, he has overseen the restructuring and turnaround of several companies, including a USD 1 billion private enterprise.

Throughout his career, Bergmair has received numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding contributions to the world of finance and business.

He was awarded Honorary Doctorate by ESUT during the 20th convocation ceremony in November where he donated a solar power system and made a pledge of ₦52 million to support ESUT’s innovation ideals.
