Over 2,000 NFCS Students Consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at ESUT

By Our Correspondent

Over two thousand members of the Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS) at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Ebeano City on Sunday, June 31, 2026, were solemnly consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at St. Albert the Great Catholic Chaplaincy of the university

The consecration, which took place across all the Sunday Masses—6:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m., and 10:30 a.m.—was a powerful spiritual response to the growing culture of nudity, immodesty, and moral laxity increasingly associated with university campuses in the recent time. The atmosphere was marked by deep reflection as young men and women publicly committed themselves to a renewed journey of holiness, purity, and disciplined Christian living.

In his homily, the Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Valentine Ozono, strongly cautioned students against the dangers of nudity and the alarming trend of sharing personal nude images and videos, now common among young people. He warned that the internet “never forgets,” stressing that careless digital actions taken today could have lifelong consequences tomorrow.

Fr. Ozono emphasized that the human body possesses an inherent, God-given dignity that must be respected, protected, and celebrated with modesty. He presented the Immaculate Heart of Mary as a timeless model of purity, humility, obedience, and interior beauty, urging students to mirror these virtues in a culture increasingly driven by exhibitionism and moral confusion.

He further challenged the students to confront what he described as “modern paganism” and social media scandals not merely through words, but through upright conduct and exemplary lifestyles. According to him, membership in the Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students calls for an intentional struggle toward holiness, moral discipline, and responsible use of freedom.

The students, in their reactions, praised the chaplain for the initiative, describing the consecration as “a bold mission against modern paganism and the social media-driven culture of promiscuity.” Many noted that the exercise had rekindled their commitment to modesty, chastity, and authentic Christian identity within the university environment.

The consecration ceremony, which will now be held every month, stands as a significant moral and spiritual statement within ESUT, reaffirming the Church’s call to holiness and presenting the Immaculate Heart of Mary as a guiding light for young people navigating the moral challenges of contemporary campus life.
