The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, has announced a four-day programme for the 2026 Students’ Week celebration aimed at promoting relaxation, networking, and cultural integration among students.
Speaking during an interview with ESUT Monitor Newspaper , the SUG Director of Socials, Akumka Nmesomachukwu, said the event was designed to provide students with an opportunity to take a break from the demands of academic activities and enjoy moments of recreation and social interaction.
According to the Director, the Students’ Week will run from Tuesday, June 16, to Friday, June 19, 2026. Activities lined up for the celebration include the Garri and Games Fest, Movie Night, Cultural Day themed “Festival of Tribes,” and the annual Bonfire Night.
He described every activity as a major highlight of the week, noting that the Garri and Games Fest would bring students together through friendly competitions and social engagement. He added that the Movie Night would provide students with a relaxing cinema-style experience, while the Cultural Day would celebrate unity in diversity by encouraging students from different ethnic backgrounds to showcase their cultures.
The Director further explained that the Bonfire Night, which concludes the week-long celebration, remains one of the most anticipated traditions of the event. He noted that the programme is expected to strengthen relationships among students across faculties and departments.
On students’ participation, he disclosed that volunteers have been mobilised across faculties, departments, hostels, and social media platforms to ensure widespread awareness and involvement. He also revealed that the organisers have put measures in place to ensure that students do not miss important lectures, quizzes, or attendance requirements while participating in the activities.
Addressing challenges faced in organising the event, the SUG official identified funding as a major concern but expressed appreciation to sponsors and partners for supporting the initiative. He added that collaboration with sponsors has helped the organisers meet some of the financial demands of the programme.
The Director also announced that several prizes, including laptops and other valuable items, would be given away during the week. He said students stand a chance to win rewards through active participation in the various activities.

He maintained that beyond entertainment, the Students’ Week celebration would promote networking, talent discovery, social interaction, and mental well-being. He noted that special content creation challenges and other engagements have been introduced to help students develop soft skills and explore opportunities beyond the classroom.
He therefore urged all students to participate actively in the celebration, describing the Students’ Week as an opportunity for students to have fun, connect with one another, and create lasting memories within the university community.
Meanwhile, ESUT Management has declared Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week as lecture-free days to enable both students and staff to participate actively in this semester’s students’ week.
The announcement was contained in a circular issued on Monday and signed by the University Registrar, Mr Ambrose Ugwu.
In the circular made available to ESUT Monitor, the management urged Deans and Heads of Department to ensure that lecturers complied with the directive adding that academic activities will resume on Monday, June 22.
