‎The Students Union Government (SUG) president of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Comr. Nwobodo Chidera, has appointed Sen. Chiekezie Emmanuel as the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), citing his wealth of leadership experience, communication skills, and commitment to student service as reasons for the appointment.

‎Announcing the appointment, the SUG President expressed confidence in Emmanuel’s ability to effectively manage the administration’s media and public communication of the new government.

‎”I appointed Comr. Chiekezie Emmanuel as my Chief Press Secretary, and I believe it was a well-considered decision,” the President  said.

‎According to him, he had worked closely with Emmanuel during his tenure as Senate President, where Emmanuel served as the Senate Majority Leader.

‎He noted that Emmanuel distinguished himself through dedication, commitment, and passion for student leadership, adding that he consistently demonstrated a strong spirit of service while coordinating and supporting several student programmes.

‎The President-elect further stated that Emmanuel’s passion for impacting lives and contributing positively to society made him a suitable choice for the role.

‎”As a leader, I believe it is important to work with people who are not only competent but also share the vision of building a student-centred administration,” he said.

‎Speaking on the responsibilities of the office, the President-elect explained that the Chief Press Secretary would be responsible for ensuring effective communication between the administration and the students, managing media relations professionally, disseminating accurate information promptly, projecting the administration’s activities positively, and promoting transparency.

‎He also noted that Emmanuel’s academic background as a Mass Communication student further qualified him for the position, describing him as experienced, capable, and well-suited for the office.

‎Reacting to the appointment, Emmanuel expressed appreciation to the SUG President-elect for the confidence reposed in him.

‎”I am delighted to have been appointed to serve as Chief Press Secretary to the SUG President. I will give my full best in covering the media sector very well,” he said.

‎Emmanuel stated that media and public communication have remained his area of service over the years, noting that he previously served as Chief Editor under two successive SUG administrations before emerging as the first elected Majority Leader.

‎He also recalled serving as News Editor and Circulation Editor of the ESUT Monitor Newspaper, saying his driving passion has always been to use his profession in service to humanity.

‎While appreciating the appointment, Emmanuel thanked members of the Mass Communication Department for their support throughout his academic and leadership journey.

‎He specifically acknowledged lecturers, including Mr Amaechi Agbo, Dr. Sebastian Okafor, the Head of Department, Dr. Chidiebere Ezinwa, and Dr. Okwudili Ekwe, for their encouragement and mentorship.

‎Emmanuel pledged to uphold professionalism in discharging his duties and assured students that he would work to ensure effective dissemination of information throughout the tenure of the new SUG administration.
