Prof Fred Eze to Deliver ESUT’s 60th Inaugural Lecture

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) is set to host its highly anticipated 60th Inaugural Lecture on 15th October 2026.
The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Frederick Eze, a distinguished Professor of Public Administration and prominent academic at the institution.
The Inaugural lecture comes two months after Prof Emeka Nzeh delivered the University’s 59th Inaugural Lecture on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Prof. Eze who is also the Director , ESUT Business School, will be speaking on the compelling theme, “BEYOND THE AUTONOMY QUESTION: Local Government Resource Allocation and Utilization in Nigeria: Changing the Narrative.”
The lecture aims to challenge the long-standing conversations surrounding Nigerian local government governance. While national debates typically center on achieving absolute financial and administrative independence for the 774 local government areas in the country, Prof. Eze’s presentation will stimulate policymakers to look past legal autonomy.
Instead, the lecture will pivot toward a critical evaluation of internal resource utilization, accountability, and the direct impact of public spending on grassroots communities.According to pre-event briefs, the academic don is expected to argue that securing financial independence from state joint accounts is only a half-victory.
The real solution to rural poverty and underdevelopment lies in reforming how council leaders allocate internal revenue and manage budgeting structures.
