Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) is organising its first Alumni Homecoming aimed at reconnecting with the past students of the faculty with a view to creating a network through which they would contributing in supporting the Faculty to enhance teaching and learning.

The alumni are expected to participate in discussions about innovative solutions for teaching and learning challenges, share their experiences, and collaborate on future projects that leverage their expertise and networks. The event will include various activities such as keynote speeches, networking sessions, and presentations on current research and ongoing projects within the faculty.

The Homecoming will hold on June 4, 2025 in the Faculty of Environmental Science Auditorium starting from 10am with a focus on raising awareness and funds for facilities that would impact teaching and learning

Speaking in an interview, Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) Dr Joseph Nwatu, told ESUT Monitor that the Homecoming is the first of its kind since the faculty was established back then in ASUTECH (Anambra State University of Technology) adding that it would afford the alumni opportunity to assess the faculty and consider ways they can be of support

“Since the Faculty of Environmental Sciences was created far back in the days of ASUTECH which led to ESUT, we have not had a situation where we call back our alumni to return home, just like a reunion. It is important now because the faculty needs the assistance of her alumni who are ilustrious sons and daughters in different endeavors all over the world.

“We have a burden of improving the teaching and learning environment in the faculty and government cannot do everything. World over, the alumni is the strength of every research or teaching institution, that is why we are requesting them to come home, and see the system they passed through and consider how they can make it better,’ Dr Nwatu said.

The first ever Alumni Homecoming of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences will be hosted by the Dean, Professor Edmund Iyi while the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie will be the Chief Host.

This homecoming event is not just a celebratory gathering but also a call to action for alumni to engage with their alma mater and help drive progress in environmental science and sustainability efforts.
