The management of ESUT has lauded the staff and students of the university for their good conducts during the just concluded 2024/2025 first semester examination.

The Registrar, Mr Ambrose Ugwu who gave the commendeation in an interview with ESUT Monitor, noted that the Uniuverity’s Examination Monitoring Committee had submitted its resulst which will be deliberated on by the bmanagment.

Mr Ugwu who said that no major incidence were recorded during the exams noted that the committee’s report will be delibrated on and decision reached will be implemented.

“The 2024/2025 first semester examinations ended on March 21. So far, the Examination monitoring team has submitted their reports and the management will deliberate on it. I don’t think we have cases of malpractice becauese at Faculty levels, they have their own exmination monitoring team which works paripassu with that of the University’s. So at the level, the incidences of examination malpractices were reduced to the bearest number.

“First and foremost, let me commend the students and staff for their conduct during the examinations. We didn’t witness any major incident and we thatnk God for that.

“As I said earlier, the management have not deliberated on the report yet but be rest assured that any decision reached will be emplemnted. This management has zero tolerance for cheating during examination and any student found cheating, or an invigilator caugth abating it will be sanctioned,” Mr Ugwu said.

It could be recalled that the first semester examinations which started on March 3^rd end on Saturday, March 21.

The university is yet to announce resumption date for the second semester which is expected to commence in May as the school will close for Easter break.

As the 2024/2025 first semester examinations begin in ESUT on Monday, March 3rd, the Management of the institution has warned that students who failed to pay their school fees and carry out course registration will not be allowed to sit for the examinations.

The Registrar of the university, Mr Ambrose Ugwu who handed the warning in a circular issued on Thursday, said that only students who paid the prescribed school and sundry fees and carried out their course registrations, would be allowed to write the examinations and directed staff to ensure full compliance.

While disclosing that examination will start for both new and returning students excluding students in the four newly approved programmes in the university, Mr Ugwu warned that violating the extant laws on examination conduct will not be tolerated by the management

“As we all are aware, the First Semester Examination starts on 3rd March, 2025. 1 am directed to remind all the staff and students that only students who have paid all their school/sundry fees and registered their courses would be allowed to write the Examination as clearly stated in our earlier memos Ref NOs. ESUT/R/123 dated 2nd October, 2024 paragraph three (3) and ESUT/R/32 dated 30” October, 2024 respectively concerning payment of school fees and closure of portal.

“All the continuing and year one students except those in the four new programmes of Medical Radiography, Public Health, Bio Medical Engineering and Human Nutrition and Dietetics will start simultaneously. New date will be released for the four new departments.

“Any breach or contravention of the existing examination rules will not be tolerated,” the circular titled “Release of Examination Timetable and Issue of School Fees and Sundry Payments,’ reads.

Meanwhile, the Department of Mass Communication has procured digital cameras for effective supervision of the examination commencing Monday.

Mr Sebastine Okafor who displayed the mini-cameras during his revision class with Year 2 students on Friday said the Department has zero tolerance for examination malpractice and cautioned that culprits will face the consequences

The management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, has once again assured the university community that the ESUT Radio will be back on air before the 2024 Matriculation date.

The Registrar, Mr Ambrose Ugwu disclosed this in an exclusive interview with ESUT Monitor in his office.

Mr Ugwu who was fielding question from the journalists on the update regarding the 2024 Matriculation Ceremony slated to hold on February 23, said the management is working round the clock to ensure that the radio is back on air before the matriculation date.

“We are seriously thinking of it. In short, I discussed it with the VC recently and he said he is going to invite the Deputy Director of Computer Science. The ESUT Radio will be on air before matriculation date. That is our target.

“We are still very hopeful that we will meet up with that target. We’ve been able to source some funds for that project. ESUT Radio is one of our terminal project that we know will be able to come to fruition,” The Registrar disclosed.

Established in 2012, ESUT Radio has been off air due to an inferno that engulfed the office recently.

On December 19, 2023, Chief Barr C.N.N. Nwagbara was elected as the new national president, Enugu State University of Science and technology, ESUT Alumni Association.

The election held in Imo State, South-East Nigeria, was the most peaceful and coordinated as the 19 members of the new Executive Council emerged devoid of divided opinions.

Chief Nwagbara’s emergence, considered a round peg in a round hole, has inspired courage and new zeal to continue to project the good emerge of ESUT nationally and globally.  

Chief Barr Nwagbara’s beginning

Born in Omuonyia, Obeagwu Autonomous Community, Ozalla in Nkanu-West local Government Area, Barrister Nwagbara who is also the current Chairman, Enugu State Bar Association, began his academic journey at the Holy Ghost Cathedral Primary School, Ogui Enugu. Upon finishing his primary school, he proceeded to the historic National Grammar School, Nike Enugu where he obtained his School Certificate in 1986. He had his Post-Secondary education at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) where he had his OND in 1989.           

As a man with innate desire in jurisprudence, Chief Nwagbara proceeded to the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT where he bagged LLB certificate in 19998 in Law. He enrolled into the Nigeria Law School in the year 2000 and was subsequently called to bar.

Called to bar 24 years ago, Barrister CNN Nwagbara began his legal journey by attaching himself to a law firm in Enugu between 2001 and 2007 where his legal and judicial gown were sewed and horned.

Leaving the firm, he went private and established his own legal firm, CNN Nwagbara and Associate (Lucky Chambord) in 2007.

Born to Lead

Between 2003 and 2011, he served as the National Legal Adviser, ESUT Alumni Association; Legal Adviser, Enugu North L.G.A – a position he has held for over 12 years and still running. He served as one-time PDP Enugu North LGA Legal Adviser 2008-2012. In 2016, he was appointed Notary Public and commissioner for oaths by Chief Judge of Nigeria. Elected Vice president, Obeagwu-Ozalla Development Union 2014 – 2016 before he was given a higher responsible by his people who elected him as the President General, Ozalla Development Union (ODU) which he served from 2020 – 2023.

On 9^th December, 2023, Chief barrister CNN Nwagbara was elected and sworn in as National President, ESUT Alumni Association.

Expanding legal horizon

Since joining the Nigeria Bar 24 years ago, Chief Nwagbara has continued to impact to humanity and society. His more than two decades experience in legal expertise has positioned him for various leadership roles, a talent he horned over the years.

For instance, he was elected as the Legal Adviser, Nigeria Bar Association Enugu Chapter, 2010 and 2012; Vice Chairman, 2014 and 2016 and chairman in 2022.

Previously, he was a member Criminal Justice Reform Committee of NBA National in 2017; a member, NBA committee against fake Lawyers as well as member, 2022 NBA National Congress, NEC.

A devoted Christian, captain

As devote Christian, Chief Nwagbara is committed to his faith and has continued to grow in that regard with acquisitions of various certificates including Graduate of Workers in Training as well as Certificate on Mediation, all from the Redeemed Christian Church, Enugu.

Married with four adorable children, Barrister Nwagbara’s hobbies include football, reading and listening to music.

Although he has not released any album in music, he has justified his football prowess as he remains the vice-captain, NBA Enugu Branch Football Team since 2010

For over three years, Zenith Bank Cash Centre situated along Charles Umeh Daddy Oyeama Avenue, opposite Fidelity Bank in ESUT has been without business and out of operation.

Overtaken by grasses and rodents, ESUT Monitor carried out an investigation to unravel the reason behind the abandoned and neglected bank edifice inside the school.
It was gathered that the cash centre not being in operation has nothing to do with the management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT.

“The issue is coming from the authorities of Zenith Bank, not ESUT. They abandoned that place for almost three years now. I think they are having some administrative challenges. It has nothing to do with ESUT, that is the summary,” Registrar, ESUT, Mr Ambrose Ugwu said when our reporters visited him on the matter.

Mr Ugwu who exonerated the institution’s management from the abandoned property, added however that the Vice Chancellor is coming up with contingency plans on bringing more banks into the university.

“Our visionary Vice Chancellor is thinking about bringing other banks to come and occupy the place. ESUT is expanding and we need the banking halls to be equally expanding. The present number of banks we have now, during the time of payment of school fees, you see students clustering that place.”

He noted that the management is interfacing with the management of Zenith Bank for them to come back to the school and reopen the cash centre

“We are still interfacing with the management of Zenith Bank to ensure that they come back,” he stated.

Cash Centre abandoned for operational reasons – Zenith Bank

When contacted, a Zenith Bank official, who pleaded anonymity because he was not “permitted” to talk, said the Cash Centre was abandoned for operational reasons. The source noted that the management of the bank decided to discontinue its operation in ESUT because the cost of running the centre was higher than the revenue they are making therefrom.

“First of all, before you do an interview, you get approval from the management team. I think it (the abandonment) has to do with business challenges, looking at the logistics and operational costs.

“The reason it was stopped has to do with logistics of moving to the cash centre. The costs of managing the cash centre was at a high rate. The cost was becoming above what we were making from there. That’s my little knowledge,” the source who is a member of the Bank’s management team in South-East region said.

The paper further gather that the bank is working on reviving the cash centre this year with April timeline.
