The Honourable member representing Nsukka East Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon Dr Pius Onyekachi Ezugwu has discountenanced report circulating in the media claiming that he was assaulted during PDP stakeholders meeting in Nsukka on Saturday.

Report had emerged in some quarters that the Chairman House Committee on Land, Urban Development and Environment and climate Change was slapped by the Commissioner for Labour in Enugu State, Chika Ugwu during the Stakeholders meeting held at the former PDP Chairman’s House, Hon Vitta Abba.

In a press Statement issued on Sunday, August 18, 2024 by his Media Aide, Amaechi Agbo, Hon Dr Ezugwu debunked the report and tagged it a handiwork of mischief makers who are bent on creating disaffection among the people.

Hon Ezugwu who noted that he was not in Nsukka on the said date nor attended the purported meeting, wondered how such incident would have happened in his absence.

“The Attention of the Honourable member representing Nsukka East Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr Dr Pius Onyekachi Ezugwu has been drawn to a fabricated story circulating in the social media claiming that the lawmaker was publicly assaulted by the Commissioner for Labour in the State, Hon Chika Ugwuoke,’ the statement reads.

“It is important that I put out this disclaimer to set the record aright. Ordinarily, I didn’t want to join issues with enemies of our Unity and Progress who are fabricating this fake news and propaganda against my person and the good people of Nsukka East Constituency.

“First and foremost, I was not in Nsukka yesterday, August 17, 2924 neither did I attend the said meeting.

“Secondly, the Honourable Commissioner for Labour is a friend and brother and we don’t have issues whatsoever.

“Finally, I have not met the commissioner for at least a week now.

“With the above facts, one begin to wonder how and why the said assault “happened”. This is a cancerous work of jaundiced enemies who hate to see Nsukka united in pursuing her political destiny,” he said.

Hon Dr Ezugwu therefore uses this occasion to assure the good people of Ndị Nsukka, especially Nsukka East Constituency, that no amount of detraction, campaign of Calumny, mischief, fake news circulation will deter him from remaining focused in providing quality and visible representation of the people at the Enugu State House of Assembly.

He called on the constituents to disregard the fake news and discountenance any propaganda aimed at bringing disquiet among them.

“Let me state without equivocation, that I will not be deterred in maintaining effective and visible representation of my good people in the State Assembly. My commitment in providing quality and measurable leadership remains unwavering.

“Therefore, I urge Ndị Nsukka in extension and Nsukka East Constituency in particular and the entire PDP stakeholder and members to discountenance the malicious report aimed at creating disquiet among our people.

“By the special grace of God, we will continue to deliver on our mandate.”
