The Student Affairs Department, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT has relocated to its new office.

Situated on the Ground Floor of the new 500-Capacity CBT Building, behind Access Bank, adjacent to ESUT ICT Centre, the office offers a greater view and serene environment for effective student-affairs administration.

Group picture after the prayer

To mark the official relocation on Tuesday, the Dean of the Department, Professor Ifeoma Okwo held a prayer session with the staff and invited guests to commit the new administrative block into the hands of God.

Administering the prayer which last for 15 minutes, the Chaplain of ESUT Catholic Chaplaincy, Rev Fr. Valentine Ozono charged the staff members to redouble their work as the new office is a sign of greater expectation by the university management.

He lauded the Vice-Chancellor and his team for given priority attention to the welfare of the staff which he said would ultimately motivate them to do more.

On her part, Professor Okwo expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and thanked him for fulfilling his promise.

The Dean noted that upon assumption of duty in 2025, he visited the VC and informed him that the office for Student Affairs Department was not spacious enough, and requested for a new office which the VC readily accepted but appealed to her to be patience while the management sort out the space issue.

“When I assumed office and saw the then Student Affairs office, I visited the VC and made an appeal that we need a more spacious office to allow the department to function optimally. The VC, asked me to be patient that the management were aware of the situation and is working towards finding a lasting solution. Today he has fulfilled the promise and we are grateful,” the Dean Said.

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has commenced registration of students’ database in the Student Affairs department.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ifeoma Okwor, in an interview with ESUT Monitor explained that the database is aimed at ensuring efficiency in managing students’ data and promptness in handling issues.

Prof Okwor noted that the need to have the data based became expedient to have information of every student in the university on the data base of the Student Affairs

“When I assumed duties, I noticed that we don’t have database for our students. I wrote to the management and they graciously saw reasons on the need to have the database in the Student Affairs Department. This will help if there’s any document that couldn’t be seen in the faculty; it must be with Student Affairs. This department serves as a fulcrum of every student and it is important that we have the students’ data on our fingertips

“The online registration would carry vital information about each student, such as parents’ or guardians’ contact details, registration number, date of birth, current address, among others, to ensure they can be easily reached at any time. The management has introduced a link for student registration, which has been approved by the digital Vice Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie,” she said.

She stressed that the database registration will start with the 2024/2025 students adding that the target is to get all the students in the university registered.

“The registration will start with 2024/2025 students, though the target is for all students to be registered. All new students which include direct entry students are expected to register. Let me emphasis that registration is compulsory.”

Prof Ifeoma Okwo has disclosed reasons the university management extended the deadline day for payment of school fees and course registration by students.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with ESUT Monitor in her office on Wednesday, Prof Okwo stated that by now portal would have been closed, but following her intervention and recommendations to management to defer the closure, due to students inability to pay and concluded their online course registration, the deadline was extended

The Dean noted that the students were complaining that they are findings it difficult to pay, that the deadline should be extended.

“The management saw to it because things are hard in the country, and ị want to use this medium to inform the students and parents that university has giving them ọne month period to pay their fees and concluded their online course registration,” the Dean said.

Prof Okwo also noted that following appeals from her office, the University Senate rescinded earlier decision that students must pay for school fees first before paying for accommodation

“I also put an appeal because I am the eyes and ears of the students, following their complaints, our students can now secure a room before paying their school fees so they can be attending lectures while we wait for December that portal will be closed,” she said.

The Dean noted that on expiration of the new date on December 4, no further extension would be made and urged the students to make best use of the second opportunity to co conclude their payment and registration processes.

“This is an opportunity to tell the students that we cannot plead the management again on their behalf for any other extension, and before December 4th that every student must have completed his or her payment

“If you go to other universities you cant register or start School without paying your School fees within ọne week of resumption but we are giving the students opportunity and they should utilize it.”
