As part of its policies in enhancing academic excellence and promoting students welfare and safety, the management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology on Tuesday were handed over the newly renovated Noca male Hostel in the main campus of the university, Ebenao City.

The contractor, Sky Blue Nigeria Limited, which carried out the eight-month renovation works handed the facility to the ESUT Management.

Addressing the ESUT Management during the handover ceremony, the Site Engineer, Mr Luguman Zakaryau, said his company maintained six reading rooms and equipped them with 200 seats, 30KVA solar power, fans, lights, and charging ports.

Egnr. Zakaryau, also added that drainage channels were constructed in the hostel and damaged windows fixed, adding that there were maintenance of the roof and ceiling, including some electrical repairs and painting of the hostel.

However, he enjoined ESUT Management to find lasting solution to the soakaway and roof gutters which remained in bad conditions. He thanked the ESUT Management for providing necessary support for the successful execution of the project.

We carried out through repair works and ensured that the hostel is put in better shape. We repaired some parts of the roofing, installed solar in each of the six reading rooms with 200 chairs distributed to them. We are grateful to the VC and his management for giving us the opportunity to be part of the university history,” Engr Zakaryau said.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, thanked TETFund for providing the resources for the hostel renovation and for always being supportive in providing critical infrastructure across universities, he enjoined the students to make judicious use of the renovated facility for the good of all.

He assured that the Management of the university would continue to upgrade student’s hostels to make them more conducive for habitation and thanked the contractor for excellent job delivery, stating that there would be more projects inauguration in the university in the coming months.

In his message of appreciation, the Hall Governor of the hostel, Chukwu Augustine thanked the ESUT Management for renovating the hostel, assuring that it would be put into good use.

Mr Chukwu described the renovated hostel and the common rooms as pivotal to the residents academic success stressing that the new facilities will help students to be more focused in their studies  

On his part, the Director of TETFund ESUT, Dr Onyeka Egwuatu, said the renovation work was part of the TETFund Distress Intervention Project in ESUT adding that the timely completion of the renovation gives ESUT leverage as one of the universities that have judiciously deployed TETFund funds judiciously.

The Vice Chancellor equally led other principal officers and key officials of the university on inspection of the 1600 capacity student’s hostel, and the Faculty of Social Sciences Building projects in the university.

At the 1600 capacity hostel project, the VC charged the contractor to ensure that the projected is delivered on schedule while the Site Engineer at the new Faculty of Social Science building assured that the project will be completed within the stipulated timeframe. .
