Determined to sustain a healthier, cleaner and neater environment, the Enugu State Government has reintroduced monthly sanitation exercise with effect from next week Saturday.

The State Government announced the return of the monthly exercise through its agency on waste management and control, ESWAMA.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) informed residents of the upcoming monthly cleanup exercise scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024.

The exercise will take off from 6:00am to 10:00am across all communities in the state.

The statement signed by ESWAMA’s Head of Public Relations, Mr Joshua Ozioko, notes that human and vehicular movements “is strictly prohibited.” Adding that “offenders will face prosecution at the Environmental Mobile Court of Law.”

Authorities have particularly emphasized the restriction on sporting activities around Okpara Square and other locations within the metropolis. Individuals engaging in such activities are advised to reschedule their activities until after the cleanup exercise to avoid arrest and prosecution.

ESWAMA urges the general public to properly bag their waste before disposal and emphasizes the importance of settling their bills at any Generation Bank branch in close proximity. The authority aims to foster a cleaner tomorrow today, promoting a healthier environment for all residents.

ESWAMA appealed for the residents’ cooperation and compliance for the success of the cleanup exercise. The agency remains committed to ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable environment for the residents of Enugu State.
