The Enugu State Governor, His Excellency, Dr Peter Ndubisi Mbah will attend the burial of late Ezinne Lucy Onuzulike Okolie, mother of ESUT Vice-Chancellor, Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, today in Awgu Town, Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State.

Also, Senators, Commissioners as well as Vice-Chancellors of some universities in Nigeria will also honour the burial of the octogenarian.

“Our VC is a popular person so we are expecting the big shots we have in our society. We are expecting the governor of Enugu State, we are expecting the Deputy governor, commissioners, senators and more people in Enugu state even those who have had interaction with the VC, his former student, colleagues at UNN and at Uniport would also be there,” Professor Chike Nwoha, Burial Committee Chairman, told our correspondent.

“Even at the meeting we had on Tuesday in Abuja, I saw so many of his friends (Vice-Chancellors) who were asking whether the burial would still hold on Thursday 16th. So it shows that many of them would be there and the expectation is high,” he concluded.

The University Community will today make presentation to the Vice-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Nnabugwu Okolie during his late mother’s burial.

Late Ezinne Onuzulike Okolie, aged 81, died on March 5, 2024.

Speaking in exclusive Interview with ESUT Monitor in Enugu on Thursday, the chairman, ESUT Burial Committee, Prof Chike Nwoha, said the University will support the family at this critical time.

Prof Nwoha who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, said that in traditionally, the university will present a cow to to the VC and his family adding that other items will be included.

“So far so good. You can see that we are doing the final meeting to see that we show the final respect and to ensure that tomorrow (today) our staff would go there comfortably.

“Injohn Igbo land you know, cow must be there, tubers of yam, cash and drinks.

“We have also made contingency arrangements on how to take our staff to the burial venue and return then back safely. We are trusting God that the burial will be a huge success and we will continue to show our support to the VC and his family,” he said.

The burial ceremony of Late Lucy Onuzulike Okolie will commence with requim mass at St Michael’s Cathedral, Awgu to be officiated by the Bishop, Most Rev John Ifeanyichukwu Okoye, Bishop of Awgu Catholic Diocese by 11am

The Burial date of late ESUT’s Vice-Chancellor’s Mother, Ezinne Lucy Okolie has been announced.

According to the burial arrangements released by the family and signed by Mr. Raphael Ndubuisi Okolie, Late Ezinne Okolie Onuzuluikewill be buried on May 16, 2024 at her country home in Umuhu Ezike Kingdom, Awgu Town in Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State.

A wife, mother, grandmother and great grand-mother, Ezinne Lucy Okolie Onuzuluike, (Nnemuruora) died on March 5, 2024

Details of the burial rites indicate that Wednesday, May 8, there will be wake and mass by 5pm at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Awkunanaw Enugu.

Tuesday 14th May, 2024 by 5pm there will be another wake and mass at St Michael’s Cathedral premises Awgu.

Two days later, May 16, her body will leave Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre Mortuary to her home, Awgu town by 8am. It will be followed by lying in state by 10am.

Her Funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s Cathedral Awgu Town, Awgu L.G.A by 11am to be followed by internment.

Sunday outing/thanksgiving mass will hold on Sunday May 18, at St. Michael’s Cathedral, Awgu Town.

Aged 81, Ezinne Okolie until her death, was
a community women leader, a virtuous-kind-hearted matriarch, mostly referred to as Nnemuruora – mother for all.

She is survived by her children, brothers, sisters, grand children, great grand children and many other relations.

Among her children is Professor Aloysius-Michaels Nnabugwu Okolie, the Vice-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT.
