The Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management (FANRM) ESUT on 21st February Matriculated its newly admitted students into the faculty with the Dean stressing the need for the new intakes to abide by the university regulations.

The Dean of the faculty, Prof. Emeka Nze Speaking with ESUT Monitor, expressed happiness on how over 200 matriculating students, were admitted nto various departments of the faculty including; Agric Economics, Agronomy and Ecological Management, Animal science and Fishery Management, and Food Science and Technology.

He equally described the decentralization of the matriculation as a unique one as the ESUT Management Team led by the DVC Prof. Chike Nwoha, came to see how the faculty’s matriculation activities were being conducted.

The Dean In his words, felt very happy to welcome the students of the faculty.

“I am very happy, I enjoin every student, especially the newly matriculated students to obey the rules and regulations, be industrious and focused. Our faculty is the first in the university and we don’t just pride over it, we maintain it at all levels

“I thank you people for coming, I thank the parents, religious people that are here, our Postgraduate students both Masters, Ph. D, PGD that are here to make us proud and see that things work very well. We promise to make sure that they graduate at record time. We are happy for all that we have seen and God bless you.,” He said.

While addressing the students and staff of the Faculty, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor urged the students to ensure they make their parents proud, avoid Cultism, social vices and eschew Examination Malpractice. He advised the staff to see the new students as their new children and guide them appropriately.

The event came to an end with a closing prayer and remarks from the Dean, who declared the matriculating students, bonafide students of the university.

Enugu – On 19th November, 2024, the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, showcased to the global community its technological innovations aimed at making lives better.

The 14 Faculties in the University displayed their innovative works ranging from edible food to electrical appliances, footwears, books, electric-powered tricycle, artifacts, among others.

Interestingly, the Executive Governor of the State, Barr Dr Peter Ndubisi Mbah was on ground to inspect the exhibition and he left the Pavilion, happy and later on the convocation day, November 23, made a pledge of ₦50 000 000.00 to support the innovative ideals of the university

The exhibition, which took place at the school pavilion featured an impressive array of products developed and invented by the faculty of Agriculture, including Esut bread, jam, mayonnaise, meatpie, pepper and indomie.

The event provided a unique opportunity for the governor to engage with the faculty members and learn about their innovative ingenuity to agricultural production.

Prof Justina Ngbada, the lead coordinator gave a tour of the exhibition, highlighting the unique features of the innovations.

“Our pepper is different from other peppers in the market” she explained, “we have developed a proprietary blend of spices that gives our pepper a distinct flavour and aroma”.

Dr. Nkem Umera, another member in the faculty discussed the health benefits of the indomie and ESUT Bread. “We have developed a unique recipe that incorporates wheat into our indomie noodle and bread production. This innovation makes our products accessible to both young and old, addressing previous health concerns associated with the usual indomie noodle”.

She also stated the price of the bread is ₦2000.

When asked about the challenges faced by the Faculty during production prof. Emeka Nzeh Dean of the Faculty of cited financial constraints “The main challenge was funding because we have the capable hands. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to driving innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture”.

He also expressed his excitement concerning the visit of the governor and the Vice-Chancellor and the fact that an innovative activity has come to play again in ESUT, stating how agriculture has helped in the growth of the economy in the state

The event marked a significant milestone in the university’s efforts to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture. As the faculty continues to develop novel products.

…Prof Emeka Nzeh Lauds Institute’s Capacity, Technological Innovation

No fewer than five staff of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, recently underwent a five-day training at the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) on Artificial Insemination

The Staff who are part of the 28 trainees from Enugu State and led by the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, ESUT, Prof Emeka Nzeh, attended the training under the auspices of Enugu State Farmers at the NAPRI, Ahmadu Bello University and commended the institute’s innovation and human capital development.

Prof. Emeka Nzeh, who led a group of 28 livestock farmers from Enugu State for a five-day training on artificial insemination at NAPRI, described as “wonderful” the various research programmes on livestock farming.

Speaking after the farmers were taken round the various sections of the 1000-hectares institute, Prof. Nzeh stressed that NAPRI needs to be widely publicised given its resources and crop of well-trained, competent and committed staff working towards moving the frontiers of agricultural innovations for higher productivity in the livestock subsector.

Upon learning of the artificial insemination technology developed at NAPRI, according to him, Enugu government jettisoned its earlier decision to send some of them to either Egypt or Mexico for artificial insemination training.

The don praised the commitment and dedication of researchers and other staff of NAPRI, urging Ahmadu Bello University and Management of NAPRI to do more in the area of staff welfare to motivate workers for increased productivity.

Nzeh, who said that the Head of Department of Animal Science of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Dr. Igugo Raymond, was also part of the trainees, disclosed that ESUT will collaborate with NAPRI to develop its artificial insemination technology.

Prof. Nzeh lauded ESUT Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, for his untiring support to ESUT Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, saying that the Vice-Chancellor recently facilitated the donation of 15,000 day-old chicks to the faculty by an individual to help boost poultry farming in the state.

The Dean also commended the Enugu State government for sponsoring the training of the 28 livestock farmers as part of effort to build more economic resources in the state.

He explained that Governor Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah-led administration in Enugu State is keen to reviving economic activities through various agricultural activities to reduce to the barest minimum the poverty level.

Prof. Nzeh further pointed out that the governor is using the state internally generated revenue (IGR) to develop the agriculture sector and to enhance other poverty alleviation projects in all parts of the state.

ESUT Monitor Newspaper on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the board of Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, ESUT to seek for collaboration and establishment of the Newspaper’s newsstand.

Led by the Dean, Prof Emeka Nzeh who welcomed the ESUT Monitor team in his office along with his Associate Dean,  expressed his profound happiness about what ESUT Monitor is doing in the university.

The Dean while commending the Department of Mass Communication for such innovative drive said that ESUT Monitor has become the information hub of ESUT community

“We are happy that you are covering the university activities in this recent time, giving leverage to staff and students. Few years ago, it wasn’t like this. ESUT Monitor is revolutionaliszing the information base of the university, projecting her good image to the globe.

“I am aware that ESUT Monitor is widely being read by the university community and outside the university, Kudos to you,” Prof Meh said

He stated that the faculty the board  will collaborate with ESUT Monitor in projecting the image of the faculty.

“We are very happy to have you people here doing the best you can to let the global world know about the activities of this great.

“I take time every day to read your publications  same thing with our other staff and students. I have been interacting with,” the Dean said.

Earlier in his address, the Staff Adviser of Amaechi Agbo, told the Faculty board that the Team was in the office to officially introduce the newspaper to them, seek for areas of collaboration as well as establishment of ESUT Monitor Newspaper newsstand in the faculty.

“This visit is crucial to establish a formal relationship and also appeal to the board to give us a space where we can have our newsstand. Staff and students call to ask us where they could buy copies of the newspaper, and we believe that establishing such here would make the paper accessible to everyone in the faculty Including the visitors,” Mr Agbo said.
