If calm and storm could dance, they would dance through my first day in school.

On the 25th of October, 2025, I secured admission into Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), one of the most prestigious universities in the South East.

On the 26th of October, I woke up as early as 5:30 a.m. to prepare for my first day at the university. I freshened up and took my breakfast immediately so I could get to the park before 7:00 a.m. Unfortunately, I dashed out of my house at 7:05, with my admission letter and credentials neatly packaged in a red transparent file.

When I got to the park, I boarded a bus from Amechi to Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT), located in Agbani, Nkanu West LGA. I paid a fee of one thousand naira, and the driver gave me a ticket. At first, I thought he increased the fare because I looked like a fresher (novice), but later I noticed other passengers paid the same, and I felt relieved.

By 7:31 a.m., the bus was filled, and we commenced our journey. A lot of trepidations thoughts ran through my mind, especially the recurring question: “Am I really ready for this?” But I brushed it off and stayed quiet as we moved.

The driving was smooth but the journey seemed longer. Some passengers even dozed off with their mouths wide open, but my thoughts wouldn’t let me rest. During the journey, something caught my attention, I saw about five motorcycles on the road, which was unusual  to me because I have not seen any since they were banned on July 3, 2012, by former governor Sullivan Chime. At first, I assumed they were lawbreakers.

However, when our bus reached a place called Chika Best in Agbani, I realized there was actually an okada park there. It gave me a strong sense of nostalgia. Later, I learned that okadas were only banned in the metropolis part of Enugu meanwhile in Agbani, they were the main means of transportation.

After about 35 minutes, we finally arrived at ESUT. The campus sat along a tarred road, with a bus stop positioned in the middle of a two-way road close to the university’s main access route. The university gate stood tall,  a large archway proudly displaying “ENUGU STATE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.” A boundary wall surrounded the campus, marking it clearly from nearby properties.

When we got to the gate, the driver paid a ₦100 fee to a security officer in order to gain access into the campus it was quite standard, if you ask me. The moment we entered, my nervousness grew stronger. If moments could fly, mine had already flown away.

Still, the beautifully landscaped areas of the school gave me a warm welcome as we drove along the 1 km tarred road. I told the driver to drop me off at the Administrative Block, the only place I knew at the time. In less than three minutes, he stopped at a bus stop named “FANS” and pointed to the building.

The block was a multi-storey structure rectangular, neat, and clearly marked “ADMINISTRATIVE BLOCK” in wine-red letters, with “REGISTRAR/BURSAR’S WING” written below in black.

When I got there, I met a crowd of students waiting outside like predators ready to feast. Most had tired and unfriendly facial expression except for one fair lady sitting calmly with one knee up, looking completely unbothered. I approached her to ask some questions, hoping she could guide me as a fresher. Coincidentally, she was a fresher too! She told me I needed to go to the ICT Centre to pay my school fees, acceptance fee, and development levy. I almost asked where it was, but since she was new herself, I decided not to.

As I was about to leave, she called me back and advised me to wait until around 8:30 or 9:00 before heading there — “they might not have started work yet,” she said. I adhered to her advice and sat beside her. We chatted for quite a while and even forgot our purpose for being there for a moment. Around 9:00, she reminded me to go sort out my payments. We both laughed and went our separate ways.

I began my search for the cybercafé building like a shepherd who had lost his sheep. Honestly, the problem was I didn’t want to ask for directions because I was afraid it would reveal my identity as a fresher. The sun was merciless that day ESUT’s “special sun,” as I’d heard students call it, wasn’t an exaggeration after all!

Just as I was about to give in, I met an old friend by chance. We exchanged pleasantries, and when I explained my situation, he gladly helped me. He took me to the cybercafé and waited while I completed my payments. Unfortunately, the portal was slow due to network traffic, and I couldn’t pay my development levy that day so they told me to come back another day.

Afterward, my friend accompanied me back to the Administrative Block, on our way to the block, he asked what I needed to do there, since registration wasn’t handled there and funny enough I was speechless when the question was thrown at me because I don’t have the right answers to it. He understood my silence and kindly showed me the building for the verification process. When I arrived, I met even more exhausted and furious faces than before!

At that point, I wanted to give up. The phrase “Go hard or go home” echoed in my mind and honestly, I was ready to go home. But then, an angel appeared in the form of a man named Mr. Agbo. He saw me sweating and looking lost, and he asked what was wrong I explained my situation, and he kindly asked me to help him carry his files to his office I agreed, sensing his good intentions.

In his office, he offered me a comfortable chair and a sachet of water. As I drank, I felt renewed as if energy had returned to my body. He helped me photocopy my documents and even offered to pay my development levy since I couldn’t earlier. I was overwhelmed with gratitude, thanking him after almost every sentence.

After everything, he took me around the campus, showing me the faculties, the library, and finally my department, Mass Communication. It was a beautiful one-storey building, and I instantly felt proud to belong there. We even met two neatly dressed ladies who told us 100-level lectures hadn’t started yet. They directed us to a senior student who took my number, added me to the departmental group chat, and told me to come for lectures the next Tuesday in my departmental wear a sky-blue shirt and black trousers.

We thanked him and left. Mr. Agbo then took me to the park. I sincerely thanked him again for everything he had done. He smiled and waved as I boarded a bus back home to Amechi this time for a cheaper fare of ₦700.

That day was a mix of chaos and blessings – a true dance between calm and storm. Every time I felt like giving up, someone appeared to lift me up. I will always be grateful to God and to Mr. Agbo for making my first day in ESUT one I’ll never forget.

But then…

When I got back home I told my parents how my day went and the requirements I needed to resume school. They congratulated me again and adhered to my requirements. Tuesday felt so far and near at the same time. I had a mixed feeling of anxiety and excitement till the awaited day. I repeated my Thursday routine but this time around I wore my departmental wear and carried a small black laptop bag. When I stepped out of my compound, I felt like a celebrity because all eyes were on me, to the extent a stranger asked whether I was going for a job interview which made me chuckle. When I got to school I told the bus driver to stop me at a new location this time around which was the faculty of MANAGEMENT SCIENCE and due to the fact I went to the faculty last week I remembered some routes I took and then I got to my class which had 100l Mass communication boldly written above the door. Then I walked into the class encountering my fellow course-mates for the first time. Some wore their departmental wear while some wore casual dress (mofti). I gently walked  to the third row to sit down then began to press my phone due to my high level of anti-social and introvert life  and  secondly there was no form of serious socialization/interaction in the class at that time. I had to stay put, after a while, a courageous girl named Ogechukwu Loveth stood up and addressed the class telling us to try and socialize with our fellow course-mates in the class instead of pressing our phones and treating our neighbours like non-living things, she then told us her name and left the scene back to her seat .

To me it was really fascinating and impressive for a 100 level student to do such a nice presentation to people she is probably seeing for the first time and from that day onwards she gained my respect. After a while a guy putting on a baggy trouser and the departmental shirt styled with jewelry all over his clothes walked in to the class to address us, he was the year 2 assistant course rep, he asked us our names for a proper introduction and also had a conversation with us and then left, two other students like the department president and the 300l course rep did the same and left  before the Staff Adviser of ESUT Monitor Newspaper, Mr Amaechi Agbo (MC Mazi) came to address us with three newspapers. During his speech I was sighted and awarded the Best Dressed 100 Level Mass Communication Student Of The Day in my class and awarded my first ever newspaper. I felt dumbfounded with such honour he also told the class he did not want to go back with the remaining newspapers so he asked questions, a female student got it so he gave her one of the newspapers and then gave another newspaper to another female for being the female best dressed 100 level mass communication student of the day in my class and then left.

When school was over I ran home with joy to share the good news with my parents, they were proud and congratulated me once more

On  the second day of my lecture was disrupted by rain, just as I was about getting to the park the heaven opened heavily and dealt with me mercilessly until I got into the bus.  When I got to class we were still treated like JJC (Johny Just Come) another set of people came to advise us about the university and many more.

The next day being Thursday was the day I ought to pack into my lodge, at this point I was expecting to have a bit fulfilment because I have craved for this freedom for a very long time but I wasn’t excited the way I thought.  It just felt normal but regardless I departed with my parents prayer and guidance and we said our farewells .

Along the way, the class became interactive people started making friends quickly and the class grew bigger and bigger day by day. there was a friend segment which is usual in all academic institutions whereby a front Becker friends are located in the front bench while the back benchers friends were located  at the back and I was part of the front benchers and we were only 3 boys and about 8 girls in my front seat row at that time. It was not a problem to me at that time being.

Some weeks later, the Dean of Faculty of Management Science with some SUG (Students Union Government) official and some 300level students came to elect a course representative (001) for our class. Regardless of the fact we already had an acting course rep at that time which the class knew. He introduced his self and stated his agenda he then asked whether any of the students in class would like to go for the post. I stood up with courage, the whole class cheered and clapped for reasons I couldn’t comprehend because I have not interacted with most of them. After that the class also nominated some individuals for the post both boys and girls. We all were in the corridor while the class elected the candidate they felt was right for the post. At the end of the election, the class chose the then acting Course Rep and he became the substantive 001 of the class. i took the loss in good faith and went back to my lodge  with no regret whatsoever because as the saying goes what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, so I refined the pain to positive gain.

After few weeks I began to interact and relate with the “back benchers” which were basically boys I have not seen before in the class talk more of talking to them due to the low exposure I got from staying in the front always. The interaction began when I encountered my fellow course mate, Wealth, whom matched my vibe properly unlike most of the front benchers after a while I changed from a front seater to a back bencher which most of people will perceive the narrative as “he changed from a good boy to a bad boy” in terms of peer group influence. Regardless I didn’t care because my discipline didn’t change only my position. During this same period some of our course-mates suddenly started to dislike our course representative saying he is rude, lacks respect and many more but I just gave it deaf ears and continued my activity after all there is nothing I could have  done.   

The Exam Moment—the Pidgeon Flew

Talking of exam, time flew so fast I  couldn’t comprehend that my first semester exams was just in one week and I wasn’t sure if I was  prepared. I left my hope on God. The exam came, the experience alone – a story for another day – and went by so fast leading to the end of the semester in March. At this point I had already made a lot of friends and memories by the end of the semester and one of the things I thanked God for was the discipline to stick to my dress code throughout the semester as I knew that truly a new level have been unlocked so unto the next.

Looking back on my first semester at Mass Communication, ESUT, I can confidently say it was a journey filled with surprises, challenges, victories, and valuable lessons. From the anxiety of my first day on campus to making friends, contesting for a leadership position, adapting to campus life, and successfully completing my first examinations, every experience contributed to my growth as a student and as an individual. Along the way, I encountered people who inspired, supported, and challenged me, helping me see life from different perspectives.

The semester taught me that success is not only measured by achievements but also by the courage to step out of one’s comfort zone, learn from disappointments, and keep moving ahead. As I closed the chapter of my first semester recollection, I felt grateful to God for His guidance, to my parents for their unwavering support, and to everyone who played a role in making my transition into university life memorable. With new friendships, valuable experiences, and greater confidence, I looked forward to the next semester, knowing that my journey at ESUT had only just begun.

The Faculty of Management Sciences, ESUT, on Thursday held its orientation programme for the 2025/2026 new students and also awarded scholarship to two best performing students in the Faculty in the current year-two class.

The orientation was designed to acquaint and educate the new students with the academic culture and ethical standards of the Faculty and the university at large with the faculty’s and departmental heads including HOD’s, Professors, lecturers and staff in attendance.

Declaring the programme open at the Prof Julius Onah Auditorium, the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Uchenna Ugwuanyi, congratulated the new students for being admitted into the faculty and urged them to pursue academic excellence.

“As you begin this new chapter, I want to emphasize that your time here will be 80% commitment to learning and research. Our faculty is dedicated to equipping you with the skills and knowledge to succeed in your chosen fields. As students of Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Mass Communication among others in our faculty, you will face challenges but our lecturers will be there to help you,” the dean said.

Prof Ugwuantyi further urged the staff to see the students as their children and consider their opportunity to impact their lives as a privilege and an honour.

The Dean also announced award of scholarship to the best performing year-one students in the faculty during the 2024/2025 academic session.

He announced the two Best Performing Students in 100-level during the last academic session to include Ogwumike Prince David from Department of Accountancy and Chioma Somtochukwu Stephanie from Department  of Mass Communication.

Each of the students was rewarded with ₦150,000 scholarship for their outstanding performance during their first year.

“Here in Faculty of Management Sciences, we have a reward mechanism for outstanding students and we recognize and celebrate academic excellence,” Prof Ugwuanyi said, and urged the current first year students to work hard and promised another award for any students who becomes the best graduating student in the faculty.

He also thanked the school Management under the leadership of the digital Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels  Okolie for their unwavering support, commitment, leadership and vision that has brought a conducive environment towards academic excellence in the university.

In his speech, a former Faculty Officer of the Faculty, Mr Paul Agu, told the students that gaining admission into ESUT is indeed an achievement, advised them on the need to obey the university rules and reminded them that ESUT has zero tolerance for misconducts.

“On behalf of the university community, I warmly congratulate you on your admission into ESUT. Gaining admission into this great institution is a significant achievement and it marks the beginning of new and important chapter in your academic journey and personal life.

“ESUT is committed to producing graduates who are not only intellectually sound but also morally upright and socially responsible. The university has zero tolerance for misconduct and any student found in breach of the regulations will be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures,” Mr Agu, who stood in for the University Registrar, said.

The orientation featured interactive sessions as lecturers from the various departments within the faculty addressed the students on diverse and relevant topics as it relates to their stay in the faculty.

These discussions covered areas such as the need for discipline, course registrations processes, grading systems, dressing ethics, examination conducts, School fees payments, student–lecturer relationships, and career prospects in management-sciences-related disciplines.

Each speaker highlighted the expectations placed on students at the university level, stressing that success in management sciences requires critical thinking, continuous learning, and collaboration.

 The lecturers also advised the students to cultivate good study habits, respect institutional rules, and actively participate in academic and extracurricular activities that contribute to holistic development.

The programme engaged the students with a lot of activates including the HIV/AIDS awareness from Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH) which was led by Dr. Chinawa Awoere, including Pharmacists, Nurses, and other medical practitioners with her.

The orientation concluded on a note of encouragement from the Faculty staff adviser, Dr Felix. Ugwu and Vote of thanks from the President of Management Sciences Student body, Comrade Nkwocha Chinecherem.

Enugu – The Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, (FMS) ESUT, Professor Uchenna Ugwuanyi has commended staff of the faculty for their dedication and unwavering  commitment to service which has signposted the FMS as one of the best in the university.

Professor Ugwuanyi made the commendation in Enugu on Friday during the 2025 End-of-the-year programme of the faculty. While extolling the staff for their love, tolerance and understanding, the Dean however cautioned them on prudent spending during the festive period.

“As we gather here today, I am filled with joy and gratitude to see all of us; beautiful and handsome faces, united in the spirit of Christmas. I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation to each of you. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence have made our faculty one of the best in the university. Your contributions have not gone unnoticed, and I am grateful for your tireless efforts.

“I also want to remind you that the festive season is a time for reflection and wise decision-making. As we indulge in merriment and feasting, let us not forget that January brings new responsibilities and challenges. Let us be mindful of our spending, and prioritize our resources for the demands that lie ahead. I urge you to be wise and prudent in your celebrations. Remember, success is not an excuse for recklessness, but a call to greater responsibility,” he said.

Professor Ugwunayi, nicknamed “Mr Project” for his visible infrastructure that has transformed the faculty, also used the occasion to renew his commitment to more quality, engaging leadership with a view to making FMS the best in the university. He therefore called for continued expression of love among all to depict not just the meaning of the season but as a symbol that has continued to cement the bond in the faculty.

“As your Dean, I promise to continue to provide leadership that is inclusive, respectful, and committed to excellence. Together, we shall strive for greatness, and make our Faculty of Management Sciences the best it can be.

“To all our esteemed colleagues, I say thank you for your understanding, tolerance, and quality relationships. Let us take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas – love, kindness, and generosity. Let us spread joy and cheer to those around us, and may the spirit of Christmas stay with us throughout the year.”

The Dean Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS), ESUT, Professor Uchenna Ugwuanyi has continued to underscore why he is called “Mr Project” as he has begun the landscaping of the Block B of the faculty as well as grading of the road leading to the Main Faculty Building housing his office.

Students of the faculty who will be returning from their long vacation in October will have a new faculty environment to welcome them as Professor Ugwuanyi continues to reshape the faculty’s environment not only to enhance the topographic scenery.

Shortly after providing a 140KW solar PV system for the Faculty which was commissioned by the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah on November 19, 2024, Professor Uche Ugwuanyi has flowed it up with other gigantic projects aimed at improving the learning environment in the faculty.

Being the largest faculty in the University with two Blocks – Block A, which houses the Dean’s office and some departments as well as Block B, which accommodates Departments of Mass Communication, Insurance and Risk Management, Marketing, among others – Prof Ugwanyi immediately went about repainting the blocks and landscaping the Block B few weeks after completing that of Block A..

Thereafter he embarked on reticulation of water across the two Blocks before he began the landscaping of Block B which is currently ongoing. To cap it all, few days ago, he also embarked on grading of the road leading to the two Faculty’s Blocks including the Department of Mass Communication.

Speaking on the projects executed by the Dean, a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, ESUT, Dr Andrew Apeh said they were not unexpected. He noted that since assuming office a year ago, Prof Uguwanyi during the handover/takeover ceremony articulated his plans for the faculty adding that he’s on course to accomplish all of them.

“I am not surprised about what the Dean is doing and anybody who knows him will attest to his capacity to deliver. During his acceptance speech on the handover day this time last year, he enumerated all that he is going to achieve in his Action Plan. What you are seeing today is a manifestation of the plans and let me assure you that no single project in the Action Plan would be left unexecuted.

“The grading of the faculty Road and landscaping of Block B are part of the plans. His mission is not only to provide a conducive atmosphere for effective pedagogy but to promote academic excellent. The faculty and by extension th University should expect more,” he said.  

During his In augural Speech, as the new Dean of FMS, Professor Ugwuanyi Stated: “As we embark on this new chapter together, I want to assure you of my unwavering commitment to the growth and development of our faculty. My vision is to bring our faculty into the limelight, showcasing the incredible work we do and the talent we nurture.

“My goal is to enhance Students learning experience, provide cutting-edge knowledge, and prepare you for successful careers.

under my administration as Dean of our Faculty, together, we will: Strengthen our research output and impact; Enhance our curriculum to meet industry demands, Foster stronger partnerships with the business community, Improve our facilities and resources and Promote a culture of inclusivity and collaboration.

“I am excited about the journey ahead and the positive changes we will bring about. Your ideas, feedback, and support will be crucial in shaping the future of our faculty. Let’s work together to make the Faculty of Management Sciences in ESUT a beacon of excellence in education, research, and innovation.”

It could be recalled that Professor Uchenna Boniface Ugwuanyi assumed duty as the FMS Dean in September 2024.

After succefully overseeing the affairs of the Department of Banking and Finance in ESUT, Dr Gabriel Anidiobu on Thursday handeded over the headship of the department to his successor, Dr. Bertram Agu

In a handover ceremonyheald in the HOD office, Dr Anidiobu congratulated his successor his his deserved appointement and promised to remain to support him in his new position.

Dr Anidiobu who served the department for over four years dating back to 2020 when his first appointment stretched for two years, appreciated the staff and students as well as the university management under Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie  and the dean of faculty of Management Sciences for support

“Today marks a great day in our department. This change of baton is sympolic because it relievs me of the headship of our great department as Dr Agu takesover.

“The past few years gave reasons to be celebrating as we collectively yearned and worked harmonisouly for the department. It is therefore important to extend my gratituted to the staff and students of the department for their understanding and support.

“Moreso to the university management under the able leadership of the Vice-Chanmcellor, Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie and our dynamic dean, Professor Uche Ugwuanyi for their support. During my tenure, we created a peaceful atmosphere to enable the department progress,” he said.

The former HOD enumerated some of the achievements recorded under his stewardship to include “Establishing an effective Departmental Welfare Scheme, successfully facilitated the transition from Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard (BMASS) to the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) curriculum standards

“Improvement on Undergraduate/Postgraduate Enrolment with the Postgraduate student numbers increasing from near zero to: PhD – 3; M.Sc. – 11, and PGD – 3; while undergraduate enrolment increased from 40 students in 100 Level (2023/2024) to 100 students in 100 Level (2024/2025).

“We also have ongoing initiatives such as B.Sc./ACB Linkage as efforts are underway to establish a collaborative pathway between our B.Sc. programme and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CBN).

“It is important to maintain peaceful coexistence and foster strong working relationships among colleagues. Adherence to official rules should remain a guiding principle. The use of committees for executing key departmental responsibilities should be sustained. Harmonious engagement with students should continue to be prioritized. 

“In the light of the above, I sincerely wish you continued success and greater achievements for our esteemed Department and ESUT,” he said.

In his speech after accepting the handover note, the HOD, Dr Agu commended his predecessor for his strides and called on him to always be available to render help to the department when called upon.

He called on the staff and students to sustain their support to the department leadership in order to excel and thanked the VC for finding him worthy to head the department

“A new responsibility comes with new situations. However, collectively, we shall overcome. I want to first and foremost thank the outgoing Head for his efforts and sacrifices in championing the affairs of our department. You exhibited character and leadership to reposition the department. We will continue from where you left but please you only left the seat, do not turn your back on us. We will always call on you for support.

“To the staff and the students, I encourage you to sustain the support to enable us move higher. To the Vice-Chancellor and his management team, let me express my profound gratitude to them for finding me worthy to head the department. This trust reposed on me will never be taking for granted. We will work collectively as a family with the faculty to achieve our objectives,” he said.  

Dr Gabriel Anidiobu’s first tenure as the Head, Department of Banking and Finance, ESUT, commenced 2020 through 2022. His second and third tenure lasted from July 2023 to 4^th September, 2025

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof Chike Nwoha has urged students to promote a sustainable school environment. He made the call during the Faculty Management Sciences’ second International Conference held at the Dr Peter Mbah Auditorium in the University’s main campus, Agbani

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michael Okolie, the DVC, expressed grave concern over the unhygienic practices of students residing in and off-campus pointing out that refuse were often improperly dumped at the front gate of the school, and students in the lodge inside the school were spreading their clothes on ornamental flowers meant to beautify and provide a sustainable school environment.

The DVC warned that if such actions persist, further measures would be taken, including involving the Environmental Sanitation and the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) in Enugu State. He enumerated few measures students should follow to ensure a cleaner school environment such as – getting an ESWAMA bags/baskets to dump their refuse in.

The conference, themed “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Africa,” featured several notable speakers, including the Dean of Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof Uche Ugwuanyi, COOU VC, Prof Kate Azuka Omeugha, Stanley Aniagu, Right Hon. Uche Ugwu (Enugu House of Assembly Speaker), the Director-General of the Nigeria College of Accountancy, among others.

A two-day International Conference on “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Africa: Management Strategies and Practices for Sustainable Development, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Sustainability and Entrepreneurship has ended in Enugu with a call for collaboration among stakeholders to address peculiar challenges facing Africa.

The conference was organized by the faculty of Management Sciences, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, and held at the Peter Mbah auditorium, ESUT, Agbani.

Declaring the conference open, ESUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Aloysius Okolie, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Chike Nwoha said the conference is the first of its kind in the history of the institution.
While describing the theme of the conference as apt, Professor Okolie said the conference will further add to the body of existing knowledge.

In an opening remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Uche Ugwuanyi said the conference offers a unique opportunity for university lecturers to stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in Management Sciences, enhance their research capability and network with their counterparts.

Professor Ugwuanyi expressed the hope that discussions and recommendations from the conference will provide valuable insights into how organizations can adopt sustainable practices, prioritize corporate social responsibility as well as promote environmental sustainability.

Earlier in an address of welcome, the Chairman Local Organizing Committee, Professor Norbert Ile said the conference offers a veritable platform for cross fertilization of knowledge, networking for policy makers and researchers.

He said the conference will build consensus on important issues which would enhance skills,knowledge expansion, policy development, capacity building and encourage action on global challenges and opportunities.

In a paper presentation on the topic achieving sustainable development goals in Africa: Lessons learned from disruptive strategies and practices of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Anambra State, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Kate Omenugha, said the SDGs represent a global framework for tackling some of the most pressing challenges, such as poverty, inequality, climate change, among others.
Professor Omenugha noted that with five years to the target date being 2030, Africa is far from meeting the set goals.

According to her, lack of intentionality in addressing the 17 goals of the SDGs and wondered why higher education institutions which should be the drivers of the SDGs appear to be lackadaisical.

The speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Rite Honourable Uche Ugwu believes that Africa can look inwards and find solutions to its peculiar challenges.

Other speakers at the International Conference are Dr Rabiu Olowo, Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Dr Friday Akpan, Director General, Nigeria College of Accountancy and Professor Ambrose Anoruo from Texas, A&M University USA, among others.

The conference, which attracted participants from the academia, government officials as well as industry experts, is designed to serve as a platform for exchange of ideas on management strategies and practices for sustainable development.

The Conference which aims to bring scholars from across the globe under one roof to dissect emerging issues and remodel humanity, will hold at the prestigious Peter Ndubuisi Mbah  Auditorium in ESUT, Agbani commencing from 10am.

Themed: “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa: Management Strategies and Practices for Sustainable Development, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Sustainability, and Entrepreneurship.” the 2025 International Conference is  expected to bring scholars, corporate leaders, policymakers, and sustainability experts from across Africa and beyond together to chart new path for humanity

According to the Secretary, Local Organising Committee LOC, Dr Andrew Apeh, the conference is designed to foster cutting-edge discussions on how Africa can leverage management innovation, ethical business practices, and entrepreneurial solutions to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

“The key focus of this International Conference is to design – strategies for sustainable economic growth in Africa , corporate social responsibility (CSR) and ethical governance, Green business models and environmental sustainability and Entrepreneurship as a driver of development,” he said

The Vice-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie on Wednesday commissioned several landmark projects at the Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS) aimed at enhancing the quality of education and facilities for students and staff members. These developments are part of a broader initiative to modernize the university’s infrastructure and improve the overall teaching and learning in the faculty

During the commissioning ceremony, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chike Nwoha who stood in for the VC, commended the FMS Dean, Professor Uchenna Boniface Ugwuanyi for his transformative leadership and commitment to educational excellence.

This is even as stakeholders, including faculty members, students, and alumni, praises his vision and efforts in bringing these projects to fruition.

Among the commissioned projects are – the renovated and furnished Dean’s office, reticulated borehole across departments and offices, renovated and furnished Postgraduate Hall, and compound paving – which demonstrate the FMS Board’s dedication to providing a conducive pedagogy.

Speaking after touring the various facilities, Prof Okolie commended the Dean and his team for their pragmatic vision which aligns with the University Management’s derive to reposition ESUT and restore its glory.

“I want to ,on behalf of the Management, thank the Dean and his team for your visionary insight in repositioning the faculty. There is no doubt that Faculty of Management Sciences is now the pace setters.

“During convocation, His Excellency was here to commission 140KVA Solar Power in the faculty Today, we are here, six months later, to witness other enduring facilities by the faculty.

“We commend those who worked collaboratively in ensuring that these projects came to limelight. These massive infrastructure will not only aid teaching and learning but also enhance academic excellence as they are inline with the Management’s derive,” the VC said.

On his part, the Dean, Prof Ugwuanyi said that the facilities are the key components of his agenda before coming into office and expressed gratitude to the students, staff and management for their support.

“Today, we gather to commission several developmental projects that showcase our commitment to excellence.

“These projects – the renovated and furnished Dean’s office, reticulated borehole, renovated and furnished PG Hall, and compound paving – demonstrate our dedication to providing a conducive learning environment. They will undoubtedly enhance our academic experience, foster a sense of community, and provide a comfortable space for our students to thrive. These improvements will have a direct impact on our students’ learning outcomes and overall well-being, and we are thrilled to take this significant step forward.

“They reflect our duty to support the university’s vision and management’s efforts to uplift its image and status. I express my profound gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his leadership and vision. I assure you, sir, of our unwavering commitment to academic excellence and supporting the university’s growth.

“As we strive for excellence, our faculty looks up to the school management for guidance and support, knowing that together, we can achieve greater heights.
