Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State has received high commendation for his administration’s launch of Enugu Air, the first state-operated airline in the South East.

The Chief Executive Officer of First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company Ltd and The Igwe elect of Mburubu Ancient Kingdom, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State , Chief Dr. Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, made this known on Monday in Enugu, shortly after the commissioning of the Enugu Air project while having an interaction with journalists.

He described Enugu Air as a pivotal move towards strengthening the South East region’s infrastructure and business climate.

He stated that the initiative signals a transformative shift in the region’s approach to connectivity, commerce, and regional integration.

According to him, “What Governor Mbah has done with Enugu Air is not just about flying aircraft—it’s about building bridges across economic zones, creating ease for investors, and redefining how people move, think, and plan in the South East.”

Chief Dr. Onuokaibe, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s real estate and construction industry, also described the launch of the airline, starting with three Embraer aircraft (E170 and E190 series), as a futuristic response to the long-standing limitations in domestic mobility, particularly in the Eastern region.

“Before now, poor access to fast and reliable air travel was one of the bottlenecks investors raised when considering projects in the South East. That narrative has now changed. Enugu is now being repositioned not just as a state capital, but as a regional aviation and investment hub.”

He also praised the Governor for linking the state to key Nigerian cities, including Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, and Kano, through the “golden triangle” flight routes planned under the airline.

“The scope of this project shows deep strategic planning. With cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Kano in the flight matrix, the Governor has laid a new corridor for goods, services, and skilled labor to move seamlessly in and out of the South East.”

“The economic implications of Enugu Air span far beyond aviation. This will spark ripple effects across various sectors—construction, hospitality, logistics, tech, even education. The more people and products we can move efficiently, the faster we grow. It will also inspire confidence in diaspora investors who now have easier access to their homeland.”

He also acknowledged the Governor’s efforts in selecting aircraft suited for regional travel, adding that the Embraer series reflects an understanding of both the market and the region’s infrastructural demands.

He, however, urged leaders in other South Eastern states to learn from Mbah’s model of translating policy ideas into impactful infrastructure, saying, “Leadership is about solving real problems, and today, Governor Mbah has solved one that has lingered for decades.”

The Enugu State Government has moved Miss Ukamaka Okonkwo, the lucky girl that was rescued from the dungeon of Obi Levi Obieze, the alleged ritualist and kidnapper at Ndiagu Umumba in Ezeagu LGA of the state to a government facility for therapy and rehabilitation.

The Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, who made this known on Sunday, said that this was at the instance of the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, given the trauma she must have passed through.

Mrs. Enih said the governor has also awarded a scholarship to Miss Okonkwo that would see her through education from her present class to the university.

“We travelled to Ndiagu Umumba, Ezeagu LGA, today at the governor’s instance to meet with parents of Ukamaka, and to bring her to Enugu where she will undergo the necessary therapy and be fully rehabilitated. You can imagine the level of trauma this young girl must have passed through.

Ukamaka Okonkwo,

“So, the government wants to ensure that she bounces back fully in the shortest possible time. Therefore, the Ministry of Children,Gender Affairs and Social Development, will be responsible for providing therapies and counselling to her before reintegrating her back into the society.

“The Governor has also graciously awarded a scholarship to her, which is to see her through university education from her current class. This is just a way of reassuring her and her parents that they are not alone and to equally put smiles on their faces. Government wants to ensure that she fulfils her glorious destiny because this is a destined child.

“In addition, a government delegation visited Mr. Theophilus
Ezih and Mrs. Chinenye Ezih, parents of the deceased boy, Chimaobi Ezih, at Agba Umana in Ezeagu LGA to commiserate with them over the unfortunate incident. We share their pains,” she stated.

She, however, said that the identity of the pregnant woman also found dead in the Ndiagu Umumba dungeon was yet to be identified to be able to trace her relatives. She assured that the government and the relevant security were working on it, maintaining that all the culprits would be brought to book.

“As you are well aware, this is a government that has zero tolerance for crime. Government has already demolished the property linked to these dastardly acts in line with extant laws of Enugu State.

“The police and other security agencies are working with the government to track down and bring back those still at large to face justice. That is the only way to appease the spirits and souls of the deceased and to get our society rid of such crimes,” she concluded.

Also on the government’s delegation to the affected families were the Deputy Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Council, Hon. Nkiru Ugwuagu, and the Head, Child Department, Ministry of Children,Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Clementina Ogbu.

In the heart of Nigeria’s southeast geopolitical zone, Enugu State is undergoing a profound transformation. Under the visionary and committed leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Enugu, the Coal City is being reborn, and its infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, and economy are revitalized. As Mbah marks his second anniversary in office, the fruits of his labour are clearly evident for everyone to see.

Notably, Mbah’s administration has embarked on an ambitious infrastructure development programme designed to unlock Enugu’s latent vast economic potential. Over 800 kilometres of roads have been constructed, linking farms to marketplaces, industries to schools, and hospitals to homes. The state’s moribund transportation network has been strengthened with the completion of five ultra-modern terminals, a game-changer for commuters and traders alike.

Building on this momentum, education has become a cornerstone of Mbah’s disruptive innovation and transformation agenda. His government has invested heavily in creating a 21st-century learning environment, with the finished and ongoing construction of 260 Smart Green Schools. These information and technologically driven institutions are equipped with interactive digital whiteboards, science laboratories, and solar-powered experiential learning spaces, providing students with a world-class education.

Furthermore, the Mbah’s administration has prioritised healthcare, recognizing its critical role in ensuring the well-being of citizens. Consequently, the state has witnessed the construction of 260 fully equipped Primary Healthcare Centres, each designed with staff quarters, solar panels, and clean water. This bold initiative has significantly improved access to quality healthcare services, saving countless lives and reducing infant mortality and morbidity.

Meanwhile, in the area of state security, the governor’s security strategy has yielded impressive results, with the launch of a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre built inside the Government House and the deployment of artificial intelligence-enabled security patrol vehicles. This proactive approach has enhanced safety and stability, creating a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

As a direct result of these efforts, Enugu’s economy has witnessed a significant boost, with internally generated revenue increasing by over 600% and investment drives yielding promising returns. Additionally, Mbah’s government has made significant strides in agriculture, acquiring vast tracts of farmland to boost food production and promote economic growth.

In a similar vein, the state’s tourism sector has been revitalized, with the completion of the International Conference Centre, Presidential Hotel, Tomorrow is Here shopping mall, and the mini dome conference hall. Work is ongoing at the newly conceived Enugu International Conference 5-star Hotel, proximate to the International Conference Centre. These iconic landmarks are poised to position Enugu as the preferred destination for business and leisure travelers.

Ultimately, as Governor Peter Mbah continues to steer Enugu State toward a brighter future, his transformational vision is inspiring hope and confidence among the people. With his unwavering commitment to good governance and his unshakeable faith in the potential of the Coal City, Mbah is rewriting the narrative of Enugu’s history as a civil service state, forging a new era of prosperity, growth, and development.

Says govt to build Centre for Experiential Learning in the University

Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has expressed satisfaction with the speedy transformation of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, which is fast restoring the institution’s glory as a centre of excellence.

Mbah spoke at the 20th Convocation Ceremony of ESUT at Agbani where he was also conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration and Corporate Governance at the weekend.

The governor announced his administration’s plan to build a Centre for Experiential Learning in ESUT to boost innovation as well as a N50m grant to Prof Cyprian Mgbachi, who stunned the world with the invention of a cooking stove cell phone battery charger, to perfect his technology, while also promising support to other innovators he identified in the university.

This was even as the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, announced the graduation of 8,437 students of the institution with First, Post-graduate, Master’s and Doctorate Degrees, noting that nine students made 1st Class.

He also said 97 per cent of ESUT programmes had been accredited through the huge investments of Mbah’s Administration in the education sector.

In the words of Governor Mbah, “Indeed, I saw technology deployed in the cause of service as I toured an exhibition pavilion showcasing a diverse range of products from biotechnology to pharmacology.

“Universities are meant to spur technological advancement. It is in line with this philosophy that I announced a new policy requiring all state-owned tertiary institutions in Enugu State to henceforth deliver Experiential Learning to our students. This change will reflect in planning, budget, curriculum reform, assessment and promotions, as well as research.

“We are also committing substantial funds for research purposes next year. These would be made available to state-owned tertiary institutions.

“We have committed over N1.6 billion to carry out structural expansion at ESUT to compensate for the space constraints at Park Lane.

“We have equally provided funds worth hundreds of millions to this institution for various programmes, including the letting up a multi-purpose laboratory at the College of Medicine, water reticulation at the College of Medicine, rehabilitation of Anatomy building at the College of Medicine, procurement of equipment for re-accreditation of Nursing Sciences, Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Sciences and procurement of equipment for resource verification of Public Health, Radiography, Human Nutrition and Dietetics as well as Biomedical Engineering in addition to other major interventions to transform the institution.

“We would be setting up a Centre for Experiential Learning here. It would be an experiential hub where professors will be wholly immersed in Experiential Learning, which would be passed on to their students,” Mbah said.

He urged the graduates to continually pursue excellence, keep pace with technology, and never severe links with the university.

“It is expected that ESUT will continually serve as a conveyor belt for the manpower necessary for the transformation envisaged in our society, from health to engineering, ICT, agriculture, etc.,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, according to the Vice Chancellor, 6,940 bagged First Degree certificates, 335 Post-Graduate Diplomas, 798 Master’s Degree certificates, while 364 received Ph.D Degrees.
