“We are glad that today was a great day in our Faculty. We welcomed the new students officially into our Faculty. The ceremony was well attended by the matriculants and their parents or guardians.

“The decentralized system of matriculation has brought in a synergy between the students, their parents and the faculty. I want to commend the Management for sustaining the system which started last year. It is yielding fruitful outcomes.

“To our new children, Faculty of Engineering is known for technological breakthrough, advancement of human intellectualism and I encourage them to be focused and give their academics attention. The newly admitted Law students in the Faculty of Law, ESUT have expressed excitement in seeing their dream come true and look forward to practicing their profession.

A cross section of the students made their feelings know to ESUT Monitor on Friday during their matriculation ceremony.

A year one law students who are among the matriculants expressed their experience since they were admitted into the school.

Ozor Great one of the 100level law students said , ” The matriculation is a great day for us the newly admitted ones, it cements us as law students and as up coming practitioners of Law” he said.

Also, Miracle who is a 100Level Law student, expressed her happiness of being matriculated but noted that bills are on the high, “ESUT is a nice school but the billing and cost of things suffocate us. However we keep pushing,”

One of the guardians of students who is lecturing at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of environmental Sciences and an Alumnus of ESUT, Architect Nneoma Ezeah . simply expressed her joy of seeing her cousin who matriculated saying,” Am happy for her and seeing her in the school I finished from and also a guardian. I wish for the best for her. Although we are in separate Faculties but I am still happy for and wishing the best for her and everyone who matriculated today,” she said.

In her interaction with ESUT Monitor, the Associates Dean, Faculty of Law, Rev. Sis Dr. Mariam Onuegbunam said the faculty is delighted to welcome the new intakes and urged them to be humble, law abiding.

“We thank God for the matriculation ceremony and for the increasing numbers of the newly matriculated law students, that the faculty is happy to have them. The have made it to their dream university and course if choice but I will advise them to be humble and law abiding. As people who are going to defend and interpret the law I. The future, their formative years are critical to us and we will give them the best so that Nigeria will be a better place when the go from here,” she said.

When asked about the effect of the decentralized system towards the matriculation process, the Associate Dean noted that it has been very effective.
“The system brings about the discipline of each faculty or department . It allows the faculty to prepare themselves and students to know where they belong because the indoctrination starts there.

“If we were still doing the the matriculation and accommodating all the students together in a particular area where the ‘Vice Chancellor addresses the whole students generally, the impacts are not there. But the decentralized matriculation process, we can address the students particularly on what they need to know within there faculty or department and the discipline they’ve come to embrace,” She said.

She admonished the students further “Law is a noble and prestigious profession. You can’t just come into law that you are coming. Once you’re coming into law you are aiming for greatness. Therefore they need to remain focused, not to deviate. If they start well and remain focused there is no way they will leave this Faculty after 5 years and not achieve something. Also let them maintain good friendship with one another, that God will surround them with essence of peace and calmness to focus on their studies”.

The Nigeria Police Force, Enugu State Command has charged students of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT to shun cultism, social vices as well as academic and life carryovers while pursuing their academic endeavours

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Enugu command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, made the charge while delivering a speech on the 2023/2024 ESUT Orientation Programm for first year students on Wednesday.

Speaking during the programme held at the prestigious Prof Julius Onah Auditorium, DSP Ndukwe admonished the year one students to define their focus and remain resolute in actualizing their educational aspiration.

He advised the students to shun every act capable of making them to stray away from the purpose for which they were in the institution and warned that no act of crime and criminality would go unpunished.

“Beyond academic, you are here to learn many things and it is in the process of learning that alot happen. Be contended with what you have.

“I am interested in what you do and how you go about the opportunities you have here. There are challenges but I urge you to be contended with what you have, don’t live fake life. Don’t measure with anybody. The competition in life is between you and yourself.

“There is no hidding place for criminals. You can get away with it but we usually say ’99 days for the thief and one day for the owner of the house’ you may run for long but when we catch you, we will bring both heaven and hell fire judgment on your head.

A section of year one students during the orientation programme on Wednesday

“One thing I want to remind you is that most time people that will lead you into cultism will come in a very soft manner. They don’t use force anymore. The time they were using force has gone. Today it could be one sweet guy who is your friend, who have been relating with you and he has been extending good manners to you, buying things and the rest of them. Eventually, when you have enjoyed so much from him or her, to say no to their request becomes difficult.

“You must begin to learn, choose your friends. You will help us to police you better. Know where you go. I am not saying you should not enjoy life but know the limit and extent you can enjoy. I encourage you, shun cultism, don’t allow anybody to force or lure you into it, shun social vices. Don’t learn those things that will end up breaking you forever,” he said.

The orientation programme marked the commencement of activities marking the 43rd Matriculation Ceremony of the University which holds on Friday, February 23, 2024.

Over 5000 students have been offered admission to study various courses in the institution for the current academic session.

The 2024 Matriculation ceremony of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, will be held at various faculties in the university.

Unlike the previous editions that were centrally organised, the management directed that each faculty will take care of their matriculation activities.

However, the management has offered explanations on why it decided to decentralise the ceremony this year.

Speaking in an interview with ESUT Monitor, ESUT Registrar, Mr Ambrose Ugwu said the decision to decentralise the matriculation ceremony activities was to ensure inclusivity and promote proximity between the parents and their wards who are studying in the university.

Mr Ugwu noted that with the new arrangement, parents would be able to have access and also know where their children are studying as well as have a first-hand knowledge of the university environment.

He added that during the matriculation activities, the Deans of various faculties will represent the Vice-Chancellor while faculty Officers would act as the registrar.

“As you are aware, the ESUT matriculation will hold on the 23rd of February 2024. Formerly we have been doing it centrally but this time around we have decided that we are going to decentralize the matriculation. The Deans of the faculties will now be the Vice-Chancellor that day and the Faculty officers will now be the registrar.

“The essence is that we want these parents to be acquainted with the faculties where their wards are going to study for four to five years. It will now be the responsibility of these faculty officers to take the parents round the environment so that if there’s any assistance they can now harvest from the parents,” he said.

The university scribe revealed that the management is making contingency plans to establish the Parents Teachers Association adding that with the decentralization, it will now help the parents to know where their children are domiciled.

Over five thousand students (5000) are set to wear the ESUT matriculation gowns for the 2023/2024 academic year.

The management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, has once again assured the university community that the ESUT Radio will be back on air before the 2024 Matriculation date.

The Registrar, Mr Ambrose Ugwu disclosed this in an exclusive interview with ESUT Monitor in his office.

Mr Ugwu who was fielding question from the journalists on the update regarding the 2024 Matriculation Ceremony slated to hold on February 23, said the management is working round the clock to ensure that the radio is back on air before the matriculation date.

“We are seriously thinking of it. In short, I discussed it with the VC recently and he said he is going to invite the Deputy Director of Computer Science. The ESUT Radio will be on air before matriculation date. That is our target.

“We are still very hopeful that we will meet up with that target. We’ve been able to source some funds for that project. ESUT Radio is one of our terminal project that we know will be able to come to fruition,” The Registrar disclosed.

Established in 2012, ESUT Radio has been off air due to an inferno that engulfed the office recently.
