Enugu – The Vice-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie has disclosed that the Institute for Peace, Conflict and Development Studies (IPCDS) was primarily established for social re-orientation and re-engineering and not necessarily to award certificates.

 The Vice-Chancellor stated this on Friday during the Induction/Orientation programme for the 2025/2026 students of the Institute held at the ESUT Business School, Enugu

Addressing the students, Prof Okolie commended them for chosen ESUT for their Postgraduate programme in Peace, Conflict and Development. While describing the Institute as the heart of unity in not just in South-East but in the country, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the essence of the Institute is to ensure peaceful co-existence among people adding that peace is at the basis of everything in human interaction.

“Let me welcome you to the Institute of Peace, Conflict and Development Studies, ESUT. We commend you for chosen ESUT for your postgraduate programme, in this discipline. Let me also remind you that the Institute was established primarily for social re-orientation and re-engineering. The essence of the Institute is to promote and sustain peace for social cohesion.

“The certificate you seek to acquire is necessary but it will be meaningless if you do not apply the knowledge for which the certificate is awarded to you. In ESUT PG Programmes, we do not accommodate overstayed students. Once you are due for graduation and we noticed that you have not graduated, we will kick you out of the programme.

“When I assumed office, I noticed that we had a huge number of overstayed students in our PG programme and we wrote them a letter and terminated their contract with the university. You therefore owe it a duty to ensure that you graduated when you are supposed to. The watchword here is discipline. Let me also remind you that you didn’t come here to pursue certificate, you came here to acquire knowledge and both the Institute and the University management are ready to help you with your corporation”, he said.

Earlier in his address, Director of the Institute, Prof Gerald Ezirim, congratulated the new students and charged them to be studious and diligent in their works. He informed them that lectures are conducted in hybrid form comprising physical and virtual classes but warned that failure to meet up with 75% attendance requirement, would disqualify them from writing their exams

“I want to first congratulate you on gaining admission into the Institute. As you begin this new journey in your academic career, I want to assure you that you are in the right place with the right people to help you navigate the journey.

“Here we operate hybrid lectures, lectures are conducted both physically and virtually. Therefore, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you must be physically present in all lectures. However, the law in the university is that every student must attend lectures at least 75% or be disqualified from taking examination,” he said.

The Director further announced that as part of policies to make the Institute visible, the Board would soon establish a journal to be solely published by the students and lecturers in the Institute and encouraged them to ensure that they published at least one article before their graduation.

“We are planning to launch the Institute journal soon and it will belong to you. Publication of at least an article is a prerequisite for your award of certificate here.”

During his speech, the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, ESUT, Prof Charles Chime, who was represented by the Associate Dean, Dr Dorathy Abonyi, took time to explain to the students how the Postgraduate Programme works. He warned them against contracting their Dissertation or Thesis to vendors and stressing that the university frowns at fabricated projects.

“I want to congratulate you on your admission into the Institute. One reality here is that all of you were offered admission the same year but you will all not graduate the same time. PG programme is not undergraduate programme where you are expected to graduate with your set. A lot of factors could cause this and I will dwell on the ones that could affect you if not properly checked. First and foremost, you are expected to fill and submit your forms on time. Ensure you pay your school fees and all other required sundry fees as and when due.

“We understand that many PG students contract their Dissertation or Thesis to road-side vendors. But we have a mechanism to checkmate them. Once you are caught, you will be punished. It profits much when you are the author of your Dissertation or Thesis and that is why your supervisors are here to guide you to ensure that you did everything right.

“We are in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The PG School is not against the application of AI in your research works but do not allow AI to reason and write for you. Make AI your assistant not you master,” he warned.

Students interviewed expressed gratitude to the management of the university and thanked the VC for gracing the event and promised to abide by the rules governing the Institute.

The IPCDS was founded in the 1990s by Professor Osy Okanya, then Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and related disciplines. It was in 2016 that the Institute was strengthened and the vision for the establishment of Institute for Peace, Conflict and Development Studies (IPCDS) was conceived.

The Vice-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie has disclosed that the Nigeria’s premier science and technology university would champion experiential learning not just in the state but beyond.

Professor Okolie while delivering a Keynote Address during the training workshop for staff of the university held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu on the topic “Transformational Leadership, Innovation and Creativity in Tertiary Institutions” charged the senior staff to adopt leadership model and attitude that would enhance the academic excellence of the institution.

He noted that as the premier science and technology university in the country, ESUT will be at the vanguard of experiential learning by ensuring implementation of hands-on-practical-based teaching and learning.

“ESUT must lead the way in the 21st century experiential learning, beyond the shores of the state. It is time we established ESUT block and paint industries. It is time we offered the students hands-on training that would make them job creators and not job seekers after graduation. We must continue to build the capacity

“Four of our staff just returned from Germany where they participated in one-month vocational training. Let me also announce that six staff of ESUT will be going to Texas, USA in the first quarter of next year for another impactful training.

“Another set of staff will at the same period be in China to acquire more knowledge in experiential learning. The key thing about this workshop which is for selected leaders and managers in the university, is that we must emphasis the practical aspect of what we are teaching and learning. We must effectively implement the 30% theoretical and 70% practical pedagogy model. Other universities should learn from us.

“Let me reiterate that students, beginning from the new academic session which starts on Monday, must be divvied into research groups right from their year one. Each group should be given research topic to explore so that by the time they are in final year, they would have come up with a research work that would be helpful to our society,” he said.

On his part, the Co-facilitator of the Workshop and Director, Academic Planning, ESUT, Professor Chike Anibeze, described experiential learning as the oldest traditional system of education akin to the apprenticeship system established by Igbos in Nigeria which is based on hands-on training and practical application of knowledge.

“Experiential learning emphasizes learning through action, reflection, and application of knowledge in real-world or simulated scenarios, rather than just passively receiving information. It is our oldest traditional system of education – much akin to the apprenticeship system established by our forefathers – whereby knowledge is transmitted through practice, and knowledge thus gained, fostered innovation and growth”

“The minimum competencies that Enugu State-owned tertiary institutions are expected to accomplish by leveraging experiential learning to advance innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development. In November 2024, at ESUT, the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, announced the Enugu Experiential Learning Policy, which charged each State-owned tertiary institution to: align education with Sustainable Development Goals, equipping students with skills to innovate solutions for Energy, Agriculture, ICT & Technology. This is the line we need to adopt and swiftly too to be the pacesetters not just in Enugu but beyond,” he said

The Vice-Chancellor, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie has disclosed that the Enugu State Government has not increased the University’s subvention for the past two and a half decades

The Vice-Chancellor who stated his in an Interview on the backdrop of the implementation of the ₦80, 000 new minimum wage in the university, noted that the management would not be able to effectively pay the new minimum wage without an upward review in the monthly subvention the school receives from the government.

Prof Okie who acknowledged the management’s readiness to pay, added that the new minimum wage will scale up the wage bill, thus the need for review.

“If you approve new minimum wage, you have to increase subvention. For now, subvention hasn’t been increased for the past 25 years,” the VC said.

He noted that with new programmes being incorporated into the university, new challenges such as staffing would arise as well as the additional salary

“Even with all these new programmes, the subvention is just ₦136 million, and our wage bill is about N440 million.

“The local governments pay N68 million, and if you add that to the state government’s contribution, you get N204 million.

“The last time we checked, they owed us N82 million. Unremitted subvention from the local government hasn’t been updated to know if it has reached N100 million.

“As of May, they owed us over N200 million. We used JAC to ask for the money, and it’s piling up again as debt. In fact, I have to tell you that we received subvention from the state government for November on December 19. If we had waited, we would be paying staff their November salaries on December 20.

“These are the challenges. We are ready to pay the new minimum wage but we also need the state government to review the subvention we are receiving,” the Vice-Chancellor concluded

Enugu – The Vice-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Professor Aloysius-Michaels Nnabugwu Okolie has once again, been honoured for his innovative leadership and culture of academic excellence in the university.

A socio-cultural group, the Greater Awgu Welfare Association, GAWA, ESUT Chapter on Saturday joined several other groups to recognize and appreciate the laudable strides the university has recorded in less than three years of his administration.

The Honour comes less than two weeks after a non-governmental organisation, Sound Education Ambassadors, SEA, Nigeria, on October 7 presented an award of excellence to the Vice-Chancellor for his visionary leadership and promotion of academic excellence in the institution.

The elaborate ceremony held at Toscana Hotel, Independent Layout Enugu on Saturday, the GAWA ESUT held a reception in honour of the VC who hails from Egbeneli Community, for his transparent and accountable leadership posture that has seen ESUT become visible globally.

In his address delivered at the occasion, the GAWA Chairman, Prof Leo Chukwu said that under the management of ESUT led by the Vice-Chancellor, the university has not only remarkably risen in visibility globally, but has become choice destination for those that seek university education in our dear country.

“We are here to celebrate excellence, assiduity, focus and tenacity of purpose.

“Since taking office as ESUT VC, this workaholic and scholar has succeeded in positively tuming ESUT around 360°. His mantra has all along been service excellence, staff motivation, time consciousness, transparency and accountability and zero tolerance to all manner of misdemeanor among staff and students.

“As I speak, ESUT has not only remarkably risen in visibility, but has become choice destination for those that seek university education in our dear country. The inaugural lecture series has since become a very pivotal component of ESUT programme of activities,” he said

In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the GAWA ESUT Chapter for the honour and stressed that the gesture will motivate him to do more.

Professor Okolie while commending the disposition of the people towards his administration warned against nepotism niting that at no point would he use his position to arrogate undo advantage to anybody neither would he spare anyone who runs foul of the university’s extant laws.

“I want to thank you for this honour. This period has been moment of Honours. Just few days I was honoured by Sound Education Ambassadors, and today we are here again. There is no doubt that I am encouraged and motivated by these gestures and they are dear to me.

“However, I must reitrate that being an Awgu person does not give you an undo advantage under this administration. We believe on merit. Whatever you merit in ESUT, irrespective where you come from, you will get it. At the same time let me also emphasis that I will not, because you are from Awgu accommodate lapses or when you run foul of the university regulation, you would be shielded. That will not happen. Anybody who goes contrary to the rules of his employment will face the consequences.

“Having said that, I thank all of you, especially guests who came from far and near to honour this occasion. Thank you and God bless,” the VC said.

Highlights of the reception were cultural dance display, presentation of a gigantic plaque to the VC by GAWA, several souvenir as well as group pictures with guests

A non-governmental organisation under the auspices of Sound Education Ambassadors, SEA, Nigeria, weekend, presented an award of excellence to the Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie for his visionary leadership and promotion of academic excellence in the University.

The organization said that the Vice Chancellor and his Management team have repositioned ESUT to a greater height since the inception of the present administration.

While speaking during the award presentation at the ESUT permanent site ,Agbani, Enugu State, the National President of the organization, Hon. Tony Nwachukwu, said the Board of Trustees, and the National Executive Council, NEC, of the SEA, found Professor Okolie worthy of the award following his impressive leadership antecedents both at ESUT, and University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN.

In her remarks, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the organization, Elizabeth Onyeabor, stated that the Management of the University has transformed ESUT through dedication and hardwork.

Onyeabor, who has dual citizenship of the USA, and Nigeria, enjoined the University Management to continue striving in its efforts to place ESUT as one of the globally competitive citadel of learning.

While expressing his gratitude to the organization for the award, the Vice Chancellor of ESUT, Professor Okolie, stated that the University Management had signed a good number of MoU with reputable organizations to train and certify ESUT students on employability skills.

Professor Okolie, further stated that the University would organize a business fair to expose some of its products and inventions to captains of industries and firms as part of the activities marking its forthcoming convocation ceremony scheduled for November 23, 2024.

He also said that the University Management has turned its attention to the agriculture faculty of the university in order to embark on commercial agriculture which would help to shore-up its revenue generation.

The Registrar of the University, Ambrose Ugwu, equally stated that ESUT graduates collect their certificates immediately after graduation, adding that the present administration had eliminated all the hitches hitherto experienced by graduates during certificate collection.

Recently, the Vice-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie stated that funding of the universities in the country should not be left for the governments alone. He stated this while assessing the impact of the current challenging economy in the country on the university.

Prof Okalie opined that universities should diversify their revenue bases in order to meet up with their day-to-day financial obligations particularly salary payments and infrastructural development.

 In ESUT, the Ventures Committee is one sector in charge of internal revenue generation for the university, a statutory responsibility this committee has overseen many years.

The Ventures Committee, superintended by Chief Comrade Ogbodo Charles, has been one of the engine rooms in supplying ESUT its financial livewire for sustenance.

In this exclusive interview with Comrade Ogbodo, he shares with us, his achievements and challenges. He explained modalities on how to get a shop at the University Park, issue of indiscriminate hawkers in the university and expressed assurance that the management is working on rehabilitating the Engr. Arthur Eze road leading to the University Park.

Activities of ESUT venture

My journey with ESUT Ventures began in January 2021 when I was appointed as secretary by the then acting Vic-Chancellor, Professor Charles Eze.

On September 20th, 2022, I was appointed as chairman of ventures by current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie to superintend over the activities of ESUT Ventures.

We have a committee which organizes the venture to recover debt from our tenants inside the ESUT Park and to advise the university on other ways that will bring ESUT Ventures to status of a directorate. We also, very importantly, generate revenue for the university

Ventures in the university

When you hear ventures, the name speaks for itself, venture is just business. We have various categories of ventures in ESUT – we have traders, those that are on cyber businesses, provision; we have the tricycles, (keke riders), motorcycle riders (okada) we have the shuttle (buses) and we have the taxi.

Shuttles in ESUT

Yes, we have different segments of shuttles plying our route everyday either bringing in or taking staff and students out of the university. We have buses, tricycles, motorcycles and taxis.

Currently we have 60 buses, 80 motorcyclist (okada), 100 tricycle riders and 40 taxies. They are all registered and numbered. 

Getting a shop at the Park

 If you need a shop at the park, you will fill a form, the committee will give you space allocation, you develop it or bring put a container. Thereafter, you pay a rent of ₦1,000 per month to ESUT Ventures account. Our job is demanding, is energy sapping job because a lot of things are involved in cause of executing and carrying out the job because you get insult, intimidation from people who should do better. Like I said earlier, the rent is ₦1, 000, it is not something to write home about, unfortunately, to collect the rent is a big challenge. But we are equal to the task, we work assiduously to generate revenue for the university which is the cardinal objective.   

Indiscriminate hawkers in the university

We are not unaware of the hawkers in the university. If you look round within the school premises, there are indiscriminate hawkers, if you go to the faculty, they are there. When you go to the park, where all of them are asked to go and settle down, you will not see them

That is what we are battling now, because we know in the past those at the faculties were asked move to the park but human beings being what they are, they resisted. Even when my team comes down to the faculties and pursue them, you will see them back the next minute. You will meet somebody selling nuts, or meat pie going round and when you tell that person to go back and settle at the park where they should be, the person will say ‘oga I will not’ Even when you succeed in pushing that person down inside the park that particular day, the next morning you will see him or her there again. That is the challenges we are having but we are hopeful they will settle down at the park soon.

Debt recovery

Debt recovering is very difficult but we combine carrot and stick approach. What we do first is to give them carrot approach because when you want to recover debt, you have to dialogue, plead. At a time, we deploy the stick because when the carrot approach is insufficient, you blend it with another approach which is stick and it is going well.

Reconstruction of road

Yes, there is plan because the venture committee is not sleeping. The management is aware of the bad road leading to the park. I have had meetings with the stakeholders at the park regarding the state of the road, I led a delegation to the vice-chancellor and he gave us a listening ear.

Recently he gave us a bus to help us be responsive to our duties.

The vice-chancellor have the road in mind and he has even told us that he has reached out to attract help. Do not forget that the road has been named after a philanthropist, Chief Arthur Eze. That tells you that our VC is making every effort, but we have to be patient because in no distance time, that road will be fixed.

Challenges

Obviously, it has not been easy but we are equal to the task. We receive insults from those that are at the park because of trying to recover debts, even in the course of trying to let them pay the ₦1,000 naira a month they will insult you and call you names and they will use all manner of tactics to evade the payment. But at the end of the day, they will pay it or we get them evicted from the park.

Security at the park

The university security patrols the park but recently, there was incident and complaints came to me. I asked the traders and transport unions to form groups and make provision for security.  They were advised to have such to complement ESUT’s security. They put that into action and engaged security men to man the area. Security is everybody’s business and I am happy they have understood the need.

Professors at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) have been enjoined to prioritize academic excellence by embarking on research that will impact society.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, made this known on Thursday during the University’s 37th inaugural lecture presented by Prof. Chioma Oleka, at the Prof. Julius Onah Auditorium, ESUT campus, Agbani.

Represented by his deputy, Prof. Chike Nwoha, the VC stated that there is a need for senior academics to conduct society-impactful research that would form their inaugural lecture, which will confirm them as academic lords.

He posited that it would be infantile for professors not to do so because they would not be accorded the necessary respect required of their status in the academic environment.

The Vice-Chancellor added that the University will always support senior academic staff who are ready to undertake such research.

The 37th ESUT inaugural lecture, presented by Prof. Chioma Oleka, centered on the impact of Naira exchange rate depreciation on economic growth, causes, effects, and ways forward.

The Vice-Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie has confirmed the appointment of Associate Professor Dorathy Obianuju Abonyi as the Associate Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies.

Associate Professor Abonyi’s appointment was sequel to the recommendation of the Dean, PG, Professor Charles Chime.

Professor Chime told ESUT Monitor in an interview why she was recommended for the job.

“She is a Electronic Engineer from Electronic department, she was a the immediate past HoD of her department. We have seen her and she is someone that is very dedicated and resourceful. When the Vice-Chancellor wanted to appoint somebody as the Associate Dean, I recommended her. It wasn’t difficult to appoint her because we have seen her work,” Prof Chime said.

Associate Professor Dorathy Abonyi graduated with 2nd Class Honours Upper division in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from ESUT in 1999. She further obtained a Master of Engineering (M.Eng) degree of the same University in 2003.

She joined the services of ESUT in 2007 as an Assistant Lecturer after an earlier industry experience as a staff of The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) where she grew rapidly to Principal Engineer, FRCN Training School.

Dr. Dorathy later proceeded to the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom as Tetfund Scholar where she bagged ,Master of Science in Engineering with major in Data Communication Engineering and crowned it up with a PhD degree.

Dorathy has been a two tenure Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with outstanding records of leadership. As HOD and in her quest for collaborative research and love for environment, she attracted two million naira fund from CBN to build an innovative ESUT BSG (Brainstorming garden) where researchers gather in small groups in a natural environment to build research ideas. She also attracted funds from other individuals to implement a digital display and signage in EEE and MPE building making the Departments stand out from any other Department in the University. As a Head of Department, Dorathy ensured that all students of the Department ready for graduation graduated on schedule. Her footprints in EEE department are too numerous to mention.

Dorathy, is currently an Associate Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of ESUT with over 40 Journal and Conference paper Publications in highly rated local and International journals and have attended several conferences in USA, UK, India, China, Italy, Morocco and within Nigeria where she presented original researched papers. She has been recently appointed the Associate Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, ESUT for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions.

She is versed in the Communication Systems Engineering where she has done works on Antennas, Radio wave propagation, Localization systems and other areas of Wireless and data communication Engineering. Dorathy has a special interest in Engineering management where she has published some papers and currently a part-time lecturer at ESUT Business school, Enugu.

She is a member of a number of Professional Associations including; the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Association of Professional women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), International Association of Engineers (IAENG).

It is expected that Associate Professor Abonyi will bring her wealth of experience to bear in repositioning the School of Postgraduate Studies in ESUT.

The management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, on Thursday paid homage to the founding father of the university, His Excellency, Senator Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo on his 84th birthday celebration.

Led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, the management team comprising the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Chike Nwoha; the Registrar, Chief Ambrose Ugwu; the Bursar, Dr Augustine Ojeh, among others, were received by the “Birthday Boy” at his country home in Amechi Awkunanaw, in Enugu South Local Government Area.

While delivering their birthday gift to the former Governor of Anambra State, the Vice-Chancellor wished him the best of his birthday day and prayed God to “sustain him with good health, long life , so that the state and the university will continue to tap from his wisdom in managing the affairs of the people.”

Senator Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, a former Minister of sports and Chairman, Enugu Rangers, celebrated his 84th birthday on Thursday May 9, 2024. He was born on this day in 1940 in Agyaragu, Lafia, Nassarawa State.

A successful businessman, Senator Nwobodo joined the Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) and in October 1978, was elected NPP chairman for the old Anambra State. He contested the 1979 elections and on 1 October 1979 was sworn into office as the first Executive Governor of Anambra State.

As governor, Nwobodo achieved unprecedented records including the establishments of the Nike Lake Hotel, Anambra State Television, Anambra State University of Science and Technology, (ASUTECH); Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), the Ikenga Hotels, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Eha Amufu College of Education, Nsugbe College of Education and the Nkalagu Cement industry, among other projects.

Establishment Of ESUT

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) is a university in Nigeria that was founded as Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) on 30 July 1980, by the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo.

The creation of Enugu State out of Anambra State in 1991 by the then Military President, General Ibrahim Gbadamasi Babangida, transformed ASUTECH into Enugu State University of Science and Technology, (ESUT)

Established as the very first state University in the country, the University has grown tremendously, stretching its academic disciplines and research across six different Schools and thirty academic departments. ESUT is located at Agbani in Nkanụ West LGA, Enugu State, Nigeria and its vision and mission are not only clearly stated, but very vigorously pursued.

On establishment, the University which was conceived on a Presidential model after Harvard University, made impressive landmarks and stamped its name as the first University of Technology and first State University in Nigeria with her main campus at Enugu.

Other campuses that were created later were located at Abakiliki, Awka and Nnewi. At inception, only three faculties namely, Engineering, Science and Technology were established at the two functional campuses at Enugu and Awka.

In 1985, there were major re-organisations and policies resulting in the introduction of new programmes and the merging of the University with its sister polytechnic – IMT. The new faculties created then were faculties of Education, Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences, Law, Social Sciences, Management Sciences and Agric Sciences etc.

The two merged institutions operated unsuccessfully under one Interim Joint Council (IJC) with Prof. Onwumechili as the President and Proc. J.C. Ene of IMT as Deputy until December 1986 when it was demerged.

By 1987 the four campuses had kicked off in earnest with Abakaliki campus housing Agric Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, while Awka campus was for students of Basic Applied Sciences, Law and Social Sciences, Nnewi campus catered for Health Sciences comprising Medicine and Dentistry while the main campus in Enugu housed Engineering, Technology, Management Sciences and the rest. Each of the campuses had a Deputy Vice-Chancellor as the administrative head.

In 1991, following the creation of Enugu State from the old Anambra State the new Government changed name from ASUTECH to ESUT.

At that time, the two former campuses of ASUTECH at Awka and Nnewi became the State University for Anambra State which today has been taken over by the Federal Government and renamed Nnamdi Azikiwe University, while the Enugu and Abakiliki campuses on the other hand formed ESUT.

ESUT however retained and adopted all the identities of the old ASUTECH including its main campus, the logo, colour, anthem, philosophy, aims and objectives among others.

This re-packaged University, ESUT, established a new campus at Adada Nkpologwu in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area where students of Applied Natural Sciences and Social Sciences were located.

These three campuses at Enugu, Abakailiki and Nsukka Zones of the State had four colleges, each headed by a Provost.

The creation of Ebonyi State from the old Enugu and Abia States in 1996 saw ESUT forfeiting its campus at Abakaliki which houses its Colleges of Medicine and Agriculture.

The new State (Ebonyi) understandably converted the campuses to a State University known today as (EBSU) Ebonyi State University. ESUT on the other hand re-established its College of Health Sciences at Nsukka until 2005 when it was relocated to Parklane Enugu and named ESUT College of Medicine/Teaching Hospital.

On February 14, 2006, the University under the Vice Chancellorship of Professor Ikechukwu Chidobem was moved from its temporary site at Independence Layout Enugu to a befitting permanent structure built in Nkanu West L.G.A. and named Ebeanọ City.
