The Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), On  Prof. Kate Azuka Omeughahas challenged the students on the importance o learning their school anthems.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the advice while delivering a thought-provoking speech at the Faculty of Management Sciences’ International Conference o the Enugu State University of Science and Technology held at Dr Peter Mbah Auditorium on Thursday. As one of the notable speakers, she shared her insights on “Lessons Learnt from Disruptive Strategies and Practices of COOU, Anambra State,” with a focus on intentionality.

Prof. Azuka challenged the students, asserting that none of them could sing the school’s anthem. She gave them the opportunity to prove her wrong, but none were able to do so. This challenge was not only directed at ESUT students but also to students of other tertiary institutions, highlighting the importance of knowing one’s school anthem as a mark of intentionality.

The Vice-Chancellor also emphasized other key areas that tertiary institutions should take seriously, including “action, equity (not equality), thinking things through, and engaging meaningfully in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

To illustrate her points, the erudite scholar showed video clips of how she transformed COOU into a sustainable environment, benefiting both the students and the community.

“A university is a small community and institutions should engage in SDG challenges,” she advocated.
