Professor Obiageli Okafor of the Department of Mass Communication, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), has been appointed as the Director of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) Programme.

Prof. Okafor, a renowned expert in Public Relations Practice, brings a wealth of experience and academic leadership to this vital position, where she will be responsible for overseeing the program aimed at preparing students for university education.

Her appointment comes as a recognition of her years of dedicated service in the field of education, particularly in public relations and communications. With a strong commitment to academic excellence, Prof. Okafor is expected to elevate the standards of the JUPEB programme and enhance its impact on students seeking to gain admission into tertiary institutions across the country. Her leadership in the role is seen as a significant step towards ensuring quality education and preparation for the future generation of students.

Prof. Obiageli Okafor, who hails from Achị in Oji River, is married to Chief Hyacinth A. Okafor of Ugwuakulu Etiti Obeleagu Umana in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, a retired Deputy Registrar in the same institution.

As the newly appointed Director, she is set to collaborate with various universities and educational bodies to further the objectives of JUPEB. Her contributions to the academic community have been lauded over the years, and this new role will allow her to continue her work in shaping the educational landscape in Nigeria.

Professor Sunny Emmanuel Udeze will on September 12, 2024 deliver the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT’s 39th Inaugural Lecture.

With the theme “Deconstructing Stereotypes Reconstructing the Image of Africa in Global Media: Public Relations Nexus” will hold at the Prof Julius Onah Auditorium ESUT Campus, Agbani, Nkanu West Local Council. Commencing from 10am

The Inaugural Lecture, the 7th by ESUT this year, is expected to gather the academia within and outside the university to crystalize ideals on Africa’s image and chart a direction for her global rebirth.

A professor of Mass Communication, the Inaugural Lecturer, Prof Sunny Udeze, has special interests in Public Relations, Advertising, International Communication
and Media Law and Ethics which he has taught over decades

He is a member of various professional bodies including , Fellow, African Council for Communication Education (FACCE); Member, Commonwealth Association for Education in Journalism and Communication (CAEJAC); a Registered Practitioner of Advertising (rpa); Member of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR) as well as a member, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Currently the Director, General Studies, ESUT and former Dean, School Postgraduate Studies, ESUT, Prof Udeze is poised to take the university community, scholars and researchers around the world in a voyage of academic transition.

The 39th Inaugural Lecture will be the 7th this year organised by ESUT. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie has made it a norm that professor should conduct their inaugural lectures to remain relevant in their academic echelon.

Professor Sunny Udeze’s lecture is coming 14 days after the 38th Inaugural Lecture on August 29 with Professor Umezurike Hughes Okafor as guest lecturer.
