“Commencement of 2025/2026 2nd Semester Examinations on July 20 is Sacrosanct” – ESUT Management Warns
By Amaechi Agbo
The management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has warned that commencement of the 2025/2026 Second Semester examination on Monday, July 20, will not be changed.
The University Registrar, Chief Ambrose Ugwu gave the warning in an exclusive interview with ESUT Monitor in his office.
Mr Ugwu while responding to a question regarding rumours in some quarters that the exam date will be altered, debunked the grapevine and warned students and lecturers not to be taken unawares when the time comes.
He stated that the date of the examinations were fixed in the beginning of the current academic session adding that the memo released on 13th of April which was later recirculated last week was a reminder to both students and lecturers to buckle up stressing that the date remains sacrosanct.
“The essence (recirculating the circular) is to ensure that people are aware that at the beginning of this session, 2025/2026, we already have a calendar, and nothing stops our calendar. It is also to ensure that lecturers who have not concluded their lectures should hasten up, carry out their in-courses as well, keep them on their toes, let them know the coming events, because we want to ensure that this university is being run systematically.
“You are aware that when we resumed, there was a circular. After some time, I released another circular showing people that we are already one month in. You know our people; at times, they don’t run until the rain starts falling. Some of the students when school reopens, very many of them do not resume immediately. I made sure that the president and the Chief Judge of the Student Union, the Dean of Student Affairs got the copies. I equally posted it on the University Senate platform and the Deans and Faculty platform. So, it is everywhere.
“The essence is to make sure that people get informed again about when the school is starting their second-semester examination and when we are closing for the second semester.” he said.
He warned that the examination date will not be changed and advised students to hasten up in ensuring they registered their courses in the university portal to avoid last-minute rush
“Since the inception of this administration, we have never shifted any date unless there is an urgency, maybe public holidays. Whenever we say lectures or exams will start, we always do that. So, it is not a joke. It is not business as usual with this administration, and these are some of the things we want to bequeath to the incoming administration.
“A university is run by a calendar. You don’t just wake up and do anything you like, postpone lectures, postpone examinations. No. This examination comes up on the 20th of July, period.
“We also want to ensure through the reposting that students who have issues regarding clearance, course registrations and all that, on the ICT list should sort them out early enough. I’ve informed all the faculty officers to hammer this and make sure that the students under them are aware of all these things. We don’t want anything to hinder the examination, no fire-brigade approach. If on the 19th of July you carry a problem and come and say, “I can’t do this or that,” I will tell you that you had a month to report or get to us about this problem. Why are you coming now?” he concluded.
