By Ugwu Ijeoma and Nnabuenyi Chioma

As part of activities to promote academic excellence and enhance experiential learning, the Department of Mass Communication, ESUT has successfully supervised over 311 industrial Training (IT) Media Attachment students across 11 States of the federation.

Some.of the states supervised are: Afia TV and Radio, Enugu; Nasarawa Broadcasting Service, Keffi; Image Merchant Promotion Limited, Write, Abuja; Radio Lagos, Ikeja among others.

The Department’s IT/Media Attachment Supervisor, Dr Ekwe Okwudiri who disclosed this on Tuesday, said the policy is part of the Department’s programmes to promote hands-on training and ensure that the students took the IT training seriously.

“The Department of Mass Communication has continued to show that it takes academic activities seriously.
So far, 311 students in 11 states have been supervised by our colleagues in those states on behalf of the Department.

“There is no gain saying the fact that Industrial Training is a critical academic curriculum that no university or department plays with. We took the time and pain to monitor and assess these students because we believe that the IT affords them the opportunity to acquire hands-on training and by so doing promote their skills and equip them with the necessary knowledge for their profession when they leave the university.

“Mass Communication Department ESUT has always championed academic excellence and everybody in the department, from the HOD to the student, is working assiduously to sustain this noble pedestal. We are also aware that some students may play truancy during the IT programme, hence the supervision becomes imperative in checkmateing those with this mindset,” he said.

On his part, the Head of the Department, Dr Maxwell Ngene, lauded Dr Ekwe and his team for sustaining the drive in ensuring that students of the department take the IT/Media Attachment programme very seriously.

Dr Ngene said Dr Ekwe and his team has demonstrated the Department’s avowed disposition in carrying out its statutory responsibilities.

“Thank you, Dr. Okwudiri Ekwe, our indefatigable and very supportive Lecturer in charge of Industrial Training cum Media Attachment and your team.

“This is a remarkable milestone and a clear testament to the fact that the Department of Mass Communication, ESUT is not only serious with academic activities but also its statutory responsibilities.

“Supervising 311 students across 11 states in Nigeria is no small feat. It demands effort, coordination, sacrifice, commitment and passion which you have ably provided, and our colleagues and friends across those states have graciously supported.
