The Management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), has commenced the building of new faculty of Social Science Block at the main campus of the University in Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government.
Sited behind Faculty of Management Sciences Hall B Block, the new faculty building has 14 months completion timeline.
The new faculty building project is wholly sponsored by the Tertiary Education Fund (TETFUND)
The Vice-Chancellor ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie told ESUT Monitor while on inspection of the site recently, that the faculty must be delivered within the time frame.
“The Faculty building is fully sponsored by the TETFUND and the contractor has 14 months to deliver the project and we are going to support him,” he said.
Prof Okolie also explained why the building of the new faculty complex became necessary.
“When we resumed office three years ago, we made a promise to demerge the faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities so that they can become separate faculties. Already we have demerged then Faculty of Applied Natural Sciences (FANS) into Physical and Biological Sciences Faculties. Today, the plan is to separate Humanities and Social Sciences so that they can function optimally.”
He appreciated TETFUND for their support promising that when completed, the project, like others, would be utilized judiciously.
“Let me use this medium to thank TETFUND for their support because each time we called on them, they would always listen to us. Under this administration, they have sponsored huge projects such as the completion of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Entrepreneurship Development Centre as well as the 500-computer-capacity new ICT Building which they started and completed in relative time. “I want to assure them that these projects will be maximally utilized to deliver on their expected plans,” he concluded.
The demerging of Faculty of Social Sciences from Humanities will bring to 15 the number of faculties in ESUT.
