ESUT’s 45-year Journey Highlighted As Faculty of Allied Health Sciences Matriculates 1,116 Students

The Dean of Health and Alien sciences Prof. Humphrey Nwobodo, in his speech at Enugu State University during the 2025/2026 matriculation celebration, stated that Enugu State University was first established in the year 1980 (45 years ago) by the first civilian governor of Anambra State, Chief Senator Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Obodo, as Anambra State University.
He further stated that in 1991, the university changed to Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) following the creation of Enugu State from the old Anambra State.
The Dean noted that the clear mandate of the university was to serve as a catalyst in the technological advancement of the people. Thus the university motto – Technology for Science. Thus establishing the vision of the university to building an outstanding internationally respected university in Africa, with strong commitment to vigorous scholarship that will serve humanity through quality teaching, research, and community service responsibility.
Addressing the newly matriculated students, the Dean educated them on the university rules and regulations which they must abide by to enable them navigate themselves to graduation. He stated that violation of any of these rules amounts to indiscipline and consequently attracts disciplinary actions such as expulsion, repeat of year, or even prosecution in the court of law.
He further stated that the whole essence of them gaining admission is to build themselves both in character and learning, to graduate in flying colours, and to impact their environment positively.
He advised that ESUT attaches more credit to responsible student hard work and healthy social environment to ensure that the product of the university suits into the society to start adding value in the environment.
The Dean also stated that the university has zero tolerance for acts of “ indiscipline or actions such as cultism, examination malpractice, impersonation, failure to pay prescribed fees, sorting of lecturers for grade after examination, sexual harassment, armed robbery, drug abuse, gangsterism, forgery, and presentation of fake documents, and other anti-social vices within the university.

“Let me put it on record, that the faculty recorded a total of 1, 116 students were offered admission in the seven departments in our faculty. This is not only unprecedented but signals the intent of the university management towards expansion,” he state
Students interviewed expressed joy that they have been offered admission to study their courses of interested and ESUT as the best university in the country.
The 45th Matriculation ceremony was held on February 20, 2026 acros the 14 faculties of the university with a total of 8, 969 students being admitted into over 78 programmes in the university.
