Dr Ezinwa Charges New ASMACS Leadership in ESUT on Sanitation, Academic Excellence

Ebeano City – The Head, Department of Mass Communication, ESUT, Associate Professor Chidiebere Ezinwa has charged the new leadership of Association of Mass Communication Students (ASMACS) ESUT, on environmental cleanliness and academic excellence.

Assoc. Prof Ezinwa gave the charge while inugurating the new leadership of the Association on Thursday in his office.

The HOD used the opportunity to thank the former leadership of the group for their service and encouraged the new set to be up and doing and ensure that the core mandates of the department are upheld.

“Today we are here to formalise the take-off of the new leadership of ASMACS. While I thank the outgoing leaders, let me reiterate my informal conversation with the new president. The priority in the department is sanitation. We have improved exponentially in academic excellence but environmental sanitation has been a big challenge. Your environment is your identity and it’s the first thing people observe when they come close to you.

During the Inauguration

“The department has witnessed sustained transformation in moral revitalisation, examination probity, academic excellence and family fratanity. ASMACS is critical in what the department does and we want the leaders to be up and doing.

“We have worked assiduously to eradicate examination malpractice in Mass Communication through various channels including the introduction of Students Photobook which we have deployed during exams to fish out impersonators. So, I urge the new leadership to be partners in progress,” he stated.

Also speaking, the Academic Adviser to the ASMACS leadership, Dr Ijeoma Ịkwueze directed the outgoing president, Comr Shedrack Eze to handover every document or property of the association to the new leaders without delay.

She charged the new executive council to remain focused and not be distracted.

In his handover address, the former president, Comr Shedrack Eze thanked the Departmental board for their support during his tenure and promised to return all documents and property of the association in his possession.

In his Inaugural Speech, the new ASMACS President, Comr Robert Selecowei, expressed gratitude to the HOD and staff of the department and the students for considering him to lead the association stressing that his time will be a departure from the norm.

“I am privileged to stand before our HOD today as the new President of of department. This is an honour. I want thank the HOD, our lecturers and students who found me worthy to be in this position. We are not here to retain the norm. We are going key into the progressive and pragmatic leadership of our HOD to move the department forward.

“We have seen the policies you are implementing. Some of them, as students, we feel uncomfortable with but on the long run, we understood that they were meant for our good. Thank you our HOD. We will work collaboratively to sustain the momentous transformation in the department,” he said.

The new ASMACS Leaders

Members of the ASMACS leadership are: Comr. Robert John Selecowei, President; Comr. Nwabuike Favour Ihechiluru, Vice President and Comr. Uzoegbu Nnenna Helen, Secretary-General.

The HOD while expressing his readingness to work with the new leadership, urged the President to furnish him with the list of expected students he would wish to work with to fill up other positions.

The new leadership of ASMACS under Comr Selecowei will oversee the students affairs in the department for the 2026/2027 academic year.
