ESUT VC Offers Automatic Employment to Former ESUT Monitor Editor-in-Chief, Joy Joseph

The Vice-Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, has approved automatic employment for the immediate past Editor-in-Chief of the ESUT Monitor Newspaper, Miss Joy Joseph for her commitment and dedication.
The Vice-Chancellor made the announcement on Monday during the flag-off of the construction of the 0.625km Dr Peter Ndubusis Mbah Access Road at the ESUT Main Campus, Ebeano City, Enugu State.
Miss Joseph, a standout student of the Department of Mass Communication, served as the Editor-in-Chief of the university’s official training publication, ESUT Monitor Newspaper. Under her editorial leadership, the paper solidified its standing as a critical institutional voice and the watchdog of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor’s decision to offer her automatic retention stems from her exceptional academic performance, professional competence, and exemplary stewardship in managing the university’s flagship newspaper.
”There is one student I have been seeing, so dutiful in Mass Communication: Joseph Joy. She worked diligently with Mazi (Staff Adviser of ESUT Monitor). I was at the International Conference Center last year when I saw the professionalism, dedication, and commitment of that young lady. I said, ‘When you finish your youth service, come back. Go to Mass Communication as a teacher, so you can build your career from there,'” he positioned.
“Six students of this university bagged First-class in Law School. And we said we cannot allow these kinds of students to depart like that. We will give them automatic employment after their youth service, to pick up job appointments in the Faculty of Law.
”This is what we do when we see light: we go for the light. When we see somebody showing us that they can deliver, we will go after the person. You don’t come after us; rather, we come after you. I need such a person to remain around because of that level of commitment.” The VC said on Monday during the inspection of the 0.625km road construction at the ESUT main Campus, Ebeano City Enugu
Joy Joseph who graduated from the University in the 2024/2025 academic session, became the only student to occupy the three critical positions in the Newspaper’s echelon. In her second year, she served as the Deputy News Editor, was elevated to the rank of News Editor in her 3rd year and became the Editor-in-Chief in her final year. Positions she occupied with regaled aplomb.
Over the years, the ESUT Monitor has served as a fertile grooming ground for future media professionals, and the management’s decision acts as a huge morale booster for current students.
The employment gesture aligns with Professor Okolie’s ongoing administrative drive to reward excellence and retain top-tier indigenous talent within the institution.
