Final Year Student Expelled Over Viral Video Alleging Lecturer Wrote Her Project For ₦150,000

By Amaechi Agbo

The Senate of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has expelled a final-year student, Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora, over a viral social media video in which she allegedly claimed that a lecturer was handling her final-year research project for N150,000.

The video, which went viral on social media last week, showed the student discussing her research projec in which she described her research topic as “Citizenship”.

She reportedly struggled to provide further details about the topic and said her supervisor was handling the work alongside those of other students.

Onyewuenyi Nora said “My Supervisor is the one doing the project work. I am supposed to do it but I don’t have time to write it so I asked him to write it. I am in chapter three but I haven’t seen the project. ..I will defend the project. I paid N150, 000. I don’t think I am the only one he is writing for” she said.

When asked what part of the country is “West” Onyewuenyi responded “the Igbos”

In a statement issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, said the decision followed its Senate meeting held last Wednesday at the Postgraduate Hall, where members considered the content of the video and the student’s claims.

The university said the Senate found aspects of the student’s account unacceptable, particularly her description of her project topic as “Citizenship” and her allegation that her supervisor was writing the project for her.

The university maintained that there was no project topic titled “Citizenship” in the Department of English Language and Literary Studies.

“Senate has expelled Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora with Matriculation Number U/2022/19900, a final-year student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, over damaging content creation,” the statement read.

“Recall that the said student had, in an interview that went viral, claimed that her project topic was Cotizenship’ when there is no such topic as Citizenship in the Department. She also claimed that her supervisor was the one who wrote the topic project for her.”

The statement added that the expulsion was intended to deter other students from engaging in similar conduct.
