“I Graduated with 2-1 in ESUT, Achieved First-Class in Law School” – Tobechukwu Ngwu
By Amaechi Agbo
Enugu – In our part two of exclusive interview with the SIX ESUT FIRST-CLASS GRADUATES at the Nigerian law School, Tobechukwu Ngwu shares her experiences with us on how she made 2-1 at ESUT but achieved First-Class at the Nigerian Law School.
Ms Ngwu who is the daughter of former Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, ESUT, Prof Oliver Ngwu, said that at the beginning of her programme at the Nigerian Law School, Yenagoa Campus, Bayelsa State, achieving First-Class Honours was not part of her initial plans.
Describing Yenagoa Campus as “an Eden” she advised ESUT students to be more committed in their academic pursuit and prioritise their dreams.

While dedicating her feat to her late father, Ms Ngwu appreciated God for her stride and thanked her Family for support.
Feeling about result?
I was very happy when I got my result. It was never an easy thing but I give God all the glory. I dedicate the Honour to my late father who sacrificed everything for me and to my family for their support
Did you really target first-class?
Well, at the beginning of the journey I didn’t. I simply desired to do well and not have to return a second time. However, in the later stage of my stay, I conceived the idea and the rest is history, to the glory of God. I worked hard for it I did times tow of everything I was doing prior, academically.
Experiences at the Yenagoa Campus
Well, Yenagoa Campus was an Eden for me. God had, ahead of time, planted all the necessary resources I would need. I had an amazing accommodation, good company, selfless lecturers and most of all, a vibrant place of worship – Chapel of Hope headed by Pastor Chukwuma Nwosu.
The journey was challenging at some point due to the intensity of the programme. It tested me emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually and financially too.

I remember falling ill and being rushed to the clinic, where I was placed on two IV drips. I wasn’t able to eat, and even when I tried, I ended up vomiting. But God healed me.
I also remember the long hours in class, sitting in uncomfortable lecture seats and returning to the hostel with neck pain. Not to mention the lengthy group meetings every evening.
I also recall that, in the early stage of the journey, we had to wait in queues for hours to buy food due to a shortage of food vendors and the large number of students to be attended to.
In all, I thank God for the victory I attained in the end.
Did you also graduate with First-Class in ESUT?
No, I didn’t. I came out with a Second-Class Upper Honours. I resolved to give it my best by embarking on the journey with renewed determination and devotion. The law school system was also helpful in making me achieve my goals.
What aspect of Law did you study, do you intend to practise?
I intend to practice in the field of Corporate and Property law
What is your aspiration as a law graduate?
I aspire to make a difference wherever I find myself and to be an influence on all those who come around me.
What are your message to your junior ones in ESUT?
My message to my juniors in ESUT is that, with God as their anchor, they can achieve all that they set their minds to do.
I will leave them with this anchor scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV):
“Prov.3.5 – Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. You also have o do you best.
