“Why I made 2-1 in ESUT but First-Class Honours at Nigerian Law School” – Chiazokam Jideofor
By Amaechi Agbo
In Our Part three of exclusive interview with the Six ESUT Graduates Who Bagged First-Class Honours at the Nigerian Law School, today Chiazokam Innocencia Jideofor shares her experience with us on why she achieved Second-Class Honours (Upper Division) at the undergraduate level in ESUT but made First-Class Honours at the Nigerian Law School, Abuja Campus.
Jideofor who said she didn’t study much hard during her undergraduate, added that at the Law School, the determination paved way for her to excel. The Ezeagu, Enugu State born bright scholar advised her junior students to face their studies squarely if they want to achieve distinction in their academic career.
Feeling when result was released
I was so excited and stunned to even scream I just cried and showed my parents and they rejoiced with me. I made them proud.

Target first-class?
Yes, 100%. That was my goal. I had it in mind all through and worked towards it.
Experiences at the Abuja campus.
Abuja campus was really good to me. The environment, the hostel, the library, everything was conducive. It made reading a lot easier because I wasn’t stressed or uncomfortable.
Did you also graduate with first-class in ESUT? If no, what did you do differently at the NLS?
I didn’t make First-Class in ESUT. I made 2-1. I’d say it’s because I didn’t read as hard as I did in Law School and I also didn’t have the First-Class mind-set from the beginning. My goal then was just to not have carryover.
Law School was different, I kept saying I wanted it, I wrote it down, I prayed about it, and I put in more work than I did in the university.
What is your aspiration as a law graduate?
Law school is quite broad and the courses are very general so real clarity comes with practice. I’ll figure out the area of law that interests me most as I gain experience because whatever I say now can still change. This is a new phase for me and I’m ready to give it my all.
Message to junior ones in ESUT?
READ. Yes, there were days I did 12 to 14 hours in the Law School. Definitely not at a stretch, but you have to read to get your desired grade. I’d also advise joining group meetings and it mustn’t be the general one. Find a community of like-minded people. Don’t miss lectures, know the kind of friends you keep.
