Enugu – What began as an ordinary Tuesday for Mr. Amaechi Agbo, popularly known as “MC Mazi,” transformed into an emotional and unforgettable celebration as the Industrial Training (IT) students of the ESUT Monitor Newspaper gathered to honor their Staff Adviser with heartfelt prayers, commendations, and gifts.

Tuesday, October 6, 2026, started like any typical work day for Mr. Agbo. He went about setting up routines and directing schedules for the Mass Communication students undergoing their mandatory two-month media attachment at the training outfit. Known for his hands-on guidance and dedication to nurturing young media talent, Agbo was completely oblivious to the elaborate plan his trainees had orchestrated behind the scenes.

Midway through the day’s activities, the normal editorial routine came to a sudden halt. In a playful yet firm twist, the IT students “ordered” their adviser to take a seat. Taken completely off guard and in total bewilderment, a bemused Mr. Agbo instead chose to stand behind the rostrum, unsure of what was unfolding before him.

Before he could process the surprise, the leader of the IT student group, Ebere Mba, stepped forward to address the gathering. On behalf of the cohort, Mba expressed deep gratitude to Mr. Agbo for his tireless mentorship, patience, and fatherly guidance throughout their industrial attachment.

What followed left the seasoned media adviser overcome with emotion and fighting back tears.

The trainees showered their adviser with tokens of appreciation, gifts, and solemn prayers, invoking blessings upon his life and career for the impact he has had on their professional journey. The atmosphere quickly shifted from a strict editorial workshop to an affectionate celebration of mentorship and gratitude.

The ESUT Monitor Newspaper, an active training ground for aspiring journalists at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), continues to serve as a bridge between classroom theory and real-world media practice. For this cohort of students, however, October 6 will be remembered not just for the news stories they covered, but for the profound lesson in gratitude they delivered to the mentor who guided them.

The eight-week Media Attachment ended on Friday, October 9, 2026 after Mr Agbo took the student to the Choice Flames Communication, a printing company in Enugu on Wednesday.
