The General Manager of Dream FM, Enugu, Mr Okey Odogwu, Tuesday delivered a practical lecture on Media Organization to 300 Level Students of the Department of Mass Communication, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) following his invitation by Dr Andrew Apeh.

Before the interactive session took off, Mr Odogwu enquired from the students of their areas.of specialization in the field of Mass Communication which few were able to express themselves by indicating their main interest in their field of discipline.

During his academic session in the classroom, the students were exposed to the structure and media management thereby laying more emphasis on what the media organization is all about using the school management as an example to enable the students to assimilate the study better.

He also used the Dream FM organization as another important example letting the students know that in radio stations, the Manager could be addressed as “General Manager” or “Station Manager”.

He further explained the different kinds of programmes in the station and elaborated more on house style while emphasizing,  professionalism, leadership, teamwork and technical  journalism practices as keen to success

Speaking during the lecture, the GM explained that a successful media organization depends on effective management, qualified personnel and clear communication,

He elaborated that the production department and how they run their duties in the station which lead into enlightening the students on the various use of editing tools and sound tools, using Adibe Audition, Capcut, and inshot as an instance.

   He encouraged the students to develop practical skills alongside their academic knowledge in preparation for careers in the media industry, thereby giving the students a class exercise to the students to generate a 30 Minutes programme.

   He also highlighted the importance of adaptability and consistency on anything the students engage themselves into using our practical activities as an instance, encouraging us never to give up most especially in creating practical jingles or contents whereas leaving the students with the saying “NEVER GIVE UP” also as an  aspiring journalist to embrace digital media and continuous learning.

During his lecture the students were happy not just at the lecture but having the privilege to meet the General Manager of one of the foremost radio stations in the South-East region, Dream FM in person.

On his part, Dr Andrew Apeh, who owes the lecture, said he invited the guest speaker to come and interface with the students and described the session as part of the department’s commitment to exposing students to professionalism and bridging the gap between class room learning and real media practice.

 The lecture came to an end with an interactive questions and answer session, during which students sought for clarifications on areas that bothered them.

 Two students, Chikezie Emmanuel and Ani Ruth gave vote of thanks on behalf of the students and thanked the media guru for his time and expressed the desire to see him again in their final year, next session.
