Prof Uche Ugwuany’s Transformative Administration as Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, ESUT

The Faculty of Management Sciences has witnessed remarkable transformation under the visionary, inclusive, and purposeful leadership of Prof. Uche B. Ugwuanyi. Over the past two years, our Faculty has experienced unprecedented improvements in infrastructure, staff welfare, academic excellence, postgraduate development, digital innovation, and student support.

His leadership has been defined not merely by promises but by visible, measurable achievements that have positively impacted staff, students, and the entire Faculty community.

Major Achievements During His First Tenure

Infrastructure Development:

1. Paving of the surroundings of Block A and Block B, creating a cleaner, safer, and more conducive academic environment.

2. Water reticulation within the Faculty.

3. Renovation of the Block A and Block B Generator House.

4. Renovation of lecturers’ offices.

5. Renovation and improvement of the Faculty Library.

6. Renovation and furnishing of the Dean’s Office.

Postgraduate Transformation

Establishment, renovation, and furnishing of a modern Faculty of Management Sciences Postgraduate Defence Hall, significantly improving the quality of postgraduate seminars and thesis defenses.

Digital Transformation

Installation of a solar power system, providing reliable 24-hour electricity supply to Block A, thereby enhancing teaching, learning, research, and administrative efficiency.

Promotion of Academic Excellence

For the first time in the Faculty’s history and in line with the Faculty’s commitment to rewarding excellence and encouraging healthy academic competition, two outstanding students were awarded scholarships of N150,000 each for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.

The scholarships were presented to the Best Year One Students with the Highest CGPA as follows:

1. The Best Year One Student in the Department of Accountancy – N150,000 Scholarship Award.

2. The Overall Best Year One Student in the Faculty of Management Sciences – N150,000 Scholarship Award.

These scholarships were generously sponsored by the Nnaemela Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting educational excellence and supporting outstanding students. It is noteworthy that Prof. Uche B. Ugwuanyi serves as a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, reflecting his enduring commitment to academic excellence, student development, and the promotion of merit beyond the walls of the University.

This initiative has not only provided financial support to deserving students but has also reinforced a culture of excellence, diligence, and healthy academic competition within the Faculty.

Throughout his tenure, Prof. Ugwuanyi has consistently demonstrated:

Having laid a solid foundation, Prof. Uche B. Ugwuanyi has pledged to consolidate these achievements by pursuing the following priorities:

1. Extension of the 24-hour solar power system to Block B, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply across the Faculty.

2. Pavement of the Department of Mass Communication Building and its surroundings to improve accessibility and the learning environment.

3. Continued modernization of teaching, learning, and research facilities.

4. Expansion of digital infrastructure across the Faculty.

5. Strengthening postgraduate education and research.

6. Enhancing staff welfare and capacity development.

7. Expanding scholarship opportunities and incentives for academic excellence.

8. Deepening collaborations with industry, professional bodies, alumni, and development partners.

9. Sustaining the culture of transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and peace.

A Response to the Collective Will of the Faculty

It is important to emphasize that Prof. Uche B. Ugwuanyi did not embark on the pursuit of a second tenure out of personal ambition. Rather, he has graciously accepted to serve again in response to the overwhelming mandate, confidence, and unanimous request of members of the Faculty Board, who believe that the remarkable progress recorded during his first tenure deserves to be consolidated.

His willingness to continue serving is therefore a response to the collective aspirations of the Faculty and a demonstration of his enduring commitment to the advancement of the Faculty of Management Sciences.
